The Triumph of Faith
1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:2through whom also we have admission by faith into this grace in which we stand, and boast in hope of the glory of God.3And not onlyso, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation worketh patience,4and patience experience,5and experience hope, andthis hope makethus not ashamed; because the love of God is diffused in our hearts by the holy Spirit that is given to us.
Christ’s Sacrifice for the Ungodly
(John 3:1–21)
6For when we were yet without strength, Christ died indue season for the ungodly.7Whereas one would hardly die for a justman, though perhaps for a goodman one might dare even to die.8But God recommendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from wrath through Him.10For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son; much more being reconciled shall we be saved by his life.11And not onlyso, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received reconciliation.
Death in Adam, Life in Christ
12Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, so death passed upon all men, for to that all have sinned:13for sin was in the world before the law. Now sin is not imputed where there is no law;14and yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned after the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is the type of Him that was to come.
15But not as the offence, so alsois the free gift: for if through the offence of one many died, much more hath the grace of God, and the giftbestowed by the grace of one man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.16For the gift is not asthe sentence was by one that sinned; for the sentenceis passed from oneoffence to condemnation, but the free giftis of many offences to justification.17For if, by the offence of one, death reigned through one, much more they who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life through one, even Jesus Christ.
18Therefore as by the offence of onethe effect of it was upon all men to condemnation: so also by the righteousness of one,the effect was upon all men to justification of life.19For as by the disobedience of one man many were made sinners; so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.20Now the law made some entrance, that the offence mightappear to abound; but where sin abounded, grace hath superabounded; that as sin had reigned in death,21so grace might reign through righteousness, unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord.
