The Resurrection
(Matthew 28:1–10;Mark 16:1–8;Luke 24:1–12)

1Now on the firstday of the week Mary Magdalene cometh early in the morning, while it was yet dark, to the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.2She therefore runneth and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid Him.3Peter therefore went out, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.4So they both ran together, but the other disciple out-ran Peter, and came first to the sepulchre:5and stooping downto look in saw the linen cloths lying; but did not go in.6Then cometh Simon Peter, who followed him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen cloths lyingthere;7and the napkin that was upon his head, not laid with the linen cloths, but folded up by itself.8Then went in also the other disciple; who came first to the sepulchre, and he saw and believed.9For they did not before understand the scripture, that He must rise from the dead.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
(Mark 16:9–11)

10So thetwo disciples went away again to their own company.

11But Mary stood without near the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept she stooped down tolook into the sepulchre; andthere seeth two angels in white sitting,12one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.13And they said to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him.14And having said this, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.15Then said Jesus to her,Woman, why dost thou weep? whom dost thou seek? She thinking that it was the gardener, saith to Him, Sir, if thou hast carried Himhence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away.16Jesus saith unto her,Mary:and she turned herself and said unto Him, Rabboni, that is to say, Master.17Jesus saith unto her,Touch me notnow; for I am not yet ascended to my Father; but godirectly to my brethren, and tell them, "Iam to ascend to my Father and your Father, andto my God and your God."18So Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples, that she had seen the Lord, andthat Hehad said thesethings to her.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples
(Luke 24:36–49;1 John 1:1–4)

19Now the same day at evening, being the firstday of the week, and the doors where the disciples were being shut, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and saith unto them,Peacebe to you.20And when He had said this, He shewed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore rejoiced when they saw the Lord.21Then said Jesus unto them again,Peacebe to you. Asmy Father sent me, even so send I you.22And when He said this, He breathed uponthem, and saith unto them,Receiveye the holy Spirit:23and whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them;but whose soeversins ye retain, they are retained.

Jesus Appears to Thomas

24But Thomas called Didymus, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.25The other disciples therefore told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and my hand into his side, I will not believe.

26And after eight days his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them:and Jesus came (the doors being shutas before) and stood in the midst, and said,Peacebe to you.27Then saith He to Thomas,Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands, and reachhither thy hand, and putit into my side; and be not incredulous, but believing.28And Thomas answered, and said, "My Lord and my God."29Jesus saith unto him,Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessedare they that have not seen, andyet have believed.

The Purpose of John’s Book

30And indeed Jesus wrought many other signs also in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:31but thesethings are written, that ye may believe, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life through his name.
