Miracle in Lydda

The first miracle took place in Lydda, a town located in the coastal plain of Sharon. According toActs 9:32-35, Peter visited the saints living there and encountered a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years due to paralysis. Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, addressed Aeneas with the words, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed!" (Acts 9:34). Immediately, Aeneas was healed and rose to his feet. This miraculous healing led to a significant spiritual awakening in the region, as "all who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord" (Acts 9:35).

Miracle in Joppa

Following the events in Lydda, Peter was called to Joppa, a nearby coastal city, where a beloved disciple named Tabitha (also known as Dorcas) had died. Tabitha was known for her good works and acts of charity, and her death was a great loss to the community. The disciples in Joppa, having heard of Peter's presence in Lydda, sent for him urgently. Upon his arrival, Peter was taken to the upper room where Tabitha's body lay. Surrounded by mourning widows, Peter sent everyone out of the room, knelt down, and prayed. Turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and upon seeing Peter, she sat up (Acts 9:40). Peter then presented her alive to the believers and widows, which resulted in many people in Joppa believing in the Lord (Acts 9:42).

These miracles performed by Peter in Lydda and Joppa are significant for several reasons. They underscore the authority and power given to the apostles by Jesus Christ to perform signs and wonders in His name.
