1Nowthe Passoverand UnleavenedBread were twodaysaway;and the chief priestsand the scribeswere seekinghowto seizeHim by stealthand kill[Him];2for they were saying,"Not duringthe festival, otherwisethere might be a riotof the people."

3While He was in Bethanyat the homeof Simonthe leper, and reclining[at the table], there camea womanwith an alabastervialof very costlyperfumeof purenard;[and] she brokethe vialand poured it overHis head.4But somewere indignantly[remarking] to one another,"Whyhas thisperfumebeenwasted?5"For thisperfumemighthave been soldfor overthree hundreddenarii, and [the money] givento the poor."And they were scoldingher.6But Jesussaid,"Let her alone;whydo you botherher? She has donea gooddeedto Me.7"For you alwayshavethe poorwith you, and wheneveryou wishyou candogoodto them; but you do not alwayshaveMe.8"She has donewhatshe could;she has anointedMy bodybeforehandfor the burial.9"TrulyI sayto you, whereverthe gospelis preachedin the wholeworld, whatthis womanhas donewill alsobe spokenof in memoryof her."

10ThenJudasIscariot,whowas oneof the twelve, went offto the chief priestsin orderto betrayHim to them.11They were gladwhen they heard[this], and promisedto givehim money. And he [began] seekinghowto betrayHim at an opportune time.

12On the firstdayof UnleavenedBread, whenthe Passover[lamb] was being sacrificed,His disciplessaidto Him, "Wheredo You wantus to goand preparefor You to eatthe Passover?"13And He senttwoof His disciplesand saidto them, "Gointo the city, and a manwill meetyou carryinga pitcherof water;followhim;14and whereverhe enters, sayto the owner of the house,'The Teachersays,"Whereis My guest roomin whichI may eatthe Passoverwith My disciples?"'15"And he himselfwill showyou a largeupper roomfurnished[and] ready;preparefor us there."16The discipleswentout and cameto the city, and found[it] justas He had toldthem; and they preparedthe Passover.

17When it was eveningHe camewith the twelve.18As they were reclining[at the table] and eating,Jesussaid,"TrulyI sayto you that oneof you will betrayMe-- one who is eatingwith Me."19They beganto be grievedand to sayto Him oneby one,"Surelynot I?"20And He saidto them, "[It is] one of the twelve, one who dipswith Me in the bowl.21"For the Sonof Man[is to] gojustas it is writtenof Him; but woeto that manby whomthe Sonof Manis betrayed![It would have been] goodfor that manifhe had not been born."

22While they were eating,He took[some] bread, and after a blessingHe broke[it], and gave[it] to them, and said,"Take[it]; thisis My body."23And when He had takena cup[and] given thanks,He gave[it] to them, and they alldrankfrom it.24And He saidto them, "Thisis My bloodof the covenant, whichis pouredout for many.25"TrulyI sayto you, I will neveragaindrinkof the fruitof the vineuntilthat daywhenI drinkit newin the kingdomof God."

26After singing a hymn, they wentout to the Mountof Olives.

27And Jesussaidto them, "You will allfall away, becauseit is written,I WILL STRIKE DOWNTHE SHEPHERD,AND THE SHEEPSHALL BE SCATTERED.'28"But afterI have been raised,I will go aheadof you to Galilee."29But Petersaidto Him, "[Even] thoughallmay fall away, yetI will not."30And Jesussaidto him, "TrulyI sayto you, that thisverynight, beforea roostercrowstwice, you yourselfwill denyMe three times."31But [Peter] kept sayinginsistently,"[Even] ifI have to diewith You, I will not denyYou!" And they allwere sayingthe same thingalso.

32They cameto a placenamedGethsemane;and He saidto His disciples,"SithereuntilI have prayed."33And He tookwith Him Peterand Jamesand John, and beganto be very distressedand troubled.34And He saidto them, "My soulis deeply grievedto the pointof death;remainhereand keep watch."35And He wenta littlebeyond[them], and fellto the groundand [began] to praythat ifit were possible, the hourmight passHim by.36And He was saying,"Abba!Father! All thingsare possiblefor You; removethiscupfrom Me; yetnot whatI will, but whatYou will."37And He cameand foundthem sleeping, and saidto Peter,"Simon, are you asleep?Couldyou not keep watchfor onehour?38"Keepwatching and prayingthat you may not comeinto temptation;the spiritis willing, but the fleshis weak."39AgainHe went awayand prayed, sayingthe samewords.40And againHe cameand foundthem sleeping, for their eyeswere very heavy;and they did not knowwhatto answerHim.41And He camethe third time, and saidto them, "Are you stillsleepingand resting? It is enough;the hourhas come;behold, the Sonof Manis being betrayedinto the handsof sinners.42"Getup, let us be going;behold, the one who betraysMe is at hand!"

43Immediatelywhile He was stillspeaking,Judas, oneof the twelve, cameup accompaniedby a crowdwith swordsand clubs,[who were] from the chief priestsand the scribesand the elders.44Nowhe who was betrayingHim had giventhem a signal, saying,"WhomeverI kiss,He is the one; seizeHim and lead Him awayunder guard."45After coming,Judas immediatelywentto Him, saying,"Rabbi!"and kissedHim.46They laidhandson Him and seizedHim.47But oneof thosewho stoodby drewhis sword, and struckthe slaveof the high priestand cut offhis ear.48And Jesussaidto them, "Have you comeout with swordsand clubsto arrestMe, as [you would] againsta robber?49"EverydayI was with you in the templeteaching, and you did not seizeMe; but [this has] [taken place] to fulfillthe Scriptures."50And they allleftHim and fled.

51A young manwas followingHim, wearing[nothing but] a linen sheetover[his] naked[body]; and they seizedhim.52But he pulled freeof the linen sheetand escapednaked.

53They ledJesusawayto the highpriest;and allthe chief priestsand the eldersand the scribesgathered together.54Peterhad followedHim at a distance, rightinto the courtyardof the high priest;and he was sittingwith the officersand warminghimself at the fire.55Nowthe chief priestsand the wholeCouncilkept trying to obtaintestimonyagainstJesusto put Him to death, and they were not findingany.56For manywere giving false testimonyagainstHim, but their testimonywas not consistent.57Somestoodup and [began] to give false testimonyagainstHim, saying,58"We heardHim say,I will destroythistemplemade with hands, and in threedaysI will buildanothermade without hands.'"59Not evenin this respectwas their testimonyconsistent.60The high prieststoodup [and came] forwardand questionedJesus, saying,"Do You not answer?Whatis it that these menare testifying againstYou?"61But He kept silentand did not answer.Againthe high priestwas questioningHim, and sayingto Him, "Are You the Christ, the Sonof the Blessed[One]?"62And Jesussaid,"I am;and you shall seeTHE SONOF MANSITTINGAT THE RIGHT HANDOF POWER,and COMINGWITH THE CLOUDSOF HEAVEN."63Tearinghis clothes, the high priestsaid,"Whatfurtherneeddo we haveof witnesses?64"You have heardthe blasphemy;howdoes it seemto you?" And they allcondemnedHim to be deservingof death.65Somebeganto spitat Him, and to blindfoldHim, and to beat Him with their fists, and to sayto Him, "Prophesy!"And the officersreceivedHim with slaps[in the face].

66As Peterwas belowin the courtyard, oneof the servant-girlsof the high priestcame,67and seeingPeterwarminghimself, she lookedat him and said,"You alsowere with Jesusthe Nazarene."68But he denied[it], saying,"I neitherknownorunderstandwhatyou are talkingabout." And he wentout ontothe porch, and a roostercrowed.69The servant-girlsawhim, and beganonce moreto sayto the bystanders,"Thisis [one] of them!"70But againhe deniedit. And aftera little whilethe bystanderswere againsayingto Peter,"Surelyyou are [one] of them, for you are a Galileantoo."71But he beganto curseand swear,"I do not knowthismanyou are talkingabout!"72Immediatelya roostercroweda second time. And PeterrememberedhowJesushad madethe remarkto him, "Beforea roostercrowstwice, you will denyMe three times."And he began to weep.
