1Now Jerichowas tightlyshutbecauseof the sonsof Israel;noonewentout and noonecamein.2The LORDsaidto Joshua,"See,I have givenJerichointo your hand,with its king[and] the valiantwarriors.3"You shall marcharoundthe city,allthe menof warcirclingthe cityonce.You shall dosofor sixdays.4"Also sevenpriestsshall carryseventrumpetsof rams'hornsbeforethe ark;then on the seventhdayyou shall marcharoundthe cityseventimes,and the priestsshall blowthe trumpets.5"It shall be that when they makea longblastwith the ram'shorn,and when you hearthe soundof the trumpet,allthe peopleshall shoutwith a greatshout;and the wallof the citywill falldownflat,and the peoplewill goup everymanstraightahead."
6So Joshuathe sonof Nuncalledthe priestsand saidto them, "Takeup the arkof the covenant,and let sevenpriestscarryseventrumpetsof rams'hornsbeforethe arkof the LORD."7Then he saidto the people,"Goforward,and marcharoundthe city,and let the armedmen goon beforethe arkof the LORD."8And it was [so], that when Joshuahad spokento the people,the sevenpriestscarryingthe seventrumpetsof rams'hornsbeforethe LORDwentforwardand blewthe trumpets;and the arkof the covenantof the LORDfollowedthem.9The armedmen wentbeforethe priestswho blewthe trumpets,and the rearguardcameafterthe ark,while they continuedto blowthe trumpets.10But Joshuacommandedthe people,saying,"You shall not shoutnorlet your voicebe heardnorlet a wordproceedout of your mouth,untilthe dayI tellyou, 'Shout!'Then you shall shout!"11So he had the arkof the LORDtakenaroundthe city,circling[it] once;then they cameinto the campand spentthe nightin the camp.
12Now Joshuaroseearlyin the morning,and the prieststookup the arkof the LORD.13The sevenpriestscarryingthe seventrumpetsof rams'hornsbeforethe arkof the LORDwenton continually,and blewthe trumpets;and the armedmen wentbeforethem and the rearguardcameafterthe arkof the LORD,while they continuedto blowthe trumpets.14Thus the seconddaythey marchedaroundthe cityonceand returnedto the camp;they didsofor sixdays.
15Then on the seventhdaythey roseearlyat the dawningof the dayand marchedaroundthe cityin the samemannerseventimes;onlyon that daythey marchedaroundthe cityseventimes.16At the seventhtime,when the priestsblewthe trumpets,Joshuasaidto the people,"Shout!For the LORDhas givenyou the city.17"The cityshall be underthe ban,it and allthat is in it belongs to the LORD;onlyRahabthe harlotand allwhoare with her in the houseshall live,becauseshe hidthe messengerswhomwe sent.18"But as for you, onlykeepyourselves from the thingsunderthe ban,sothat you do not covet[them] and takesomeof the thingsunderthe ban,and makethe campof Israelaccursedand bringtroubleon it.19"But allthe silverand goldand articlesof bronzeand ironare holyto the LORD;they shall gointo the treasuryof the LORD."20So the peopleshouted,and [priests] blewthe trumpets;and when the peopleheardthe soundof the trumpet,the peopleshoutedwith a greatshoutand the wallfelldownflat,so that the peoplewentup into the city,everymanstraightahead,and they tookthe city.21They utterlydestroyedeverythingin the city,bothmanand woman,youngand old,and oxand sheepand donkey,with the edgeof the sword.
22Joshuasaidto the twomenwho had spiedout the land,"Gointo the harlot'shouseand bringthe womanand allshe has out of there,as you have swornto her."23So the youngmenwho were spieswentin and broughtout Rahaband her fatherand her motherand her brothersand allshe had; they also broughtout allher relativesand placedthem outsidethe campof Israel.24They burnedthe citywith fire,and allthat was in it. Onlythe silverand gold,and articlesof bronzeand iron,they putinto the treasuryof the houseof the LORD.25However, Rahabthe harlotand her father'shouseholdand allshe had, Joshuaspared;and she has livedin the midstof Israelto thisday,for she hidthe messengerswhomJoshuasentto spyout Jericho.
26Then Joshuamade them takean oathat that time,saying,"Cursedbeforethe LORDis the manwhorisesup and buildsthiscityJericho;with [the loss of] his firstbornhe shall layits foundation,and with [the loss of] his youngestsonhe shall setup its gates."27So the LORDwas with Joshua,and his famewas in allthe land.
