1Now it cameabout afterthe deathof Mosesthe servantof the LORD,that the LORDspoketo Joshuathe sonof Nun,Moses'servant,saying,2"MosesMy servantis dead;nowtherefore arise,crossthisJordan,you and allthispeople,to the landwhichI am givingto them, to the sonsof Israel.3"Everyplaceon whichthe soleof your foottreads,I have givenit to you, justas I spoketo Moses.4"From the wildernessand thisLebanon,even as faras the greatriver,the riverEuphrates,allthe landof the Hittites,and as faras the GreatSeatoward the settingof the sunwill be your territory.5"Nomanwill [be able to] standbeforeyou allthe daysof your life.Justas I have beenwith Moses,I will be with you; I will not failyou or forsakeyou.6"Be strongand courageous,for you shall givethispeoplepossessionof the landwhichI sworeto their fathersto givethem.7"Onlybe strongand verycourageous;be carefulto doaccording to allthe lawwhichMosesMy servantcommandedyou; do not turnfrom it to the rightor to the left,sothat you may havesuccesswhereveryou go.8"Thisbookof the lawshall not departfrom your mouth,but you shall meditateon it dayand night,sothat you may be carefulto doaccording to allthat is writtenin it; for thenyou will makeyour wayprosperous,and thenyou will havesuccess.9"Have I not commandedyou? Be strongand courageous!Do not trembleor be dismayed,for the LORDyour Godis with you whereveryou go."
10Then Joshuacommandedthe officersof the people,saying,11"Passthrough the midstof the campand commandthe people,saying,'Prepareprovisionsfor yourselves, for withinthreedaysyou are to crossthisJordan,to goin to possessthe landwhichthe LORDyour Godis givingyou, to possessit.'"
12To the Reubenitesand to the Gaditesand to the half-tribeof Manasseh,Joshuasaid,13"Rememberthe wordwhichMosesthe servantof the LORDcommandedyou, saying,The LORDyour Godgivesyou restand will giveyou thisland.'14"Your wives,your littleones,and your cattleshall remainin the landwhichMosesgaveyou beyondthe Jordan,but you shall crossbeforeyour brothersin battlearray,allyour valiantwarriors,and shall helpthem,15untilthe LORDgivesyour brothersrest,as [He gives] you, and they alsopossessthe landwhichthe LORDyour Godis givingthem. Then you shall returnto your ownland,and possessthat whichMosesthe servantof the LORDgaveyou beyondthe Jordantoward the sunrise."
16They answeredJoshua,saying,"Allthat you have commandedus we will do,and whereveryou sendus we will go.17"Justas we obeyedMosesin allthings,sowe will obeyyou; onlymay the LORDyour Godbe with you as He was with Moses.18"Anyonewhorebelsagainstyour commandand does not obeyyour wordsin allthat you commandhim, shall be putto death;onlybe strongand courageous."
