1Afterthese thingsJesuswas walkingin Galilee,for He was unwillingto walkin Judeabecausethe Jewswere seekingto killHim.2Nowthe feastof the Jews,the Feast of Booths,was near.3ThereforeHis brotherssaidto Him, "Leavehereand gointo Judea,sothat Your disciplesalsomay seeYour workswhichYou are doing.4"For no onedoesanythingin secretwhenhe himselfseeksto be [known] publicly.IfYou dothese things,showYourselfto the world."5For not evenHis brotherswere believingin Him.6SoJesussaidto them, "My timeis not yethere,but your timeis alwaysopportune.7"The worldcannothateyou, but it hatesMe becauseI testifyof it, that its deedsare evil.8"Goup to the feastyourselves;I do not goup to thisfeastbecauseMy timehas not yetfully come."9Having saidthese thingsto them, He stayedin Galilee.
10But whenHis brothershad goneup to the feast,thenHe Himselfalsowentup, not publicly,but as if,in secret.11Sothe Jewswere seekingHim at the feastand were saying,"Whereis He?"12There was muchgrumblingamongthe crowdsconcerningHim; somewere saying,"He is a good man";otherswere saying,"No,on the contrary,He leadsthe peopleastray."13Yetno onewas speakingopenlyof Him for fearof the Jews.
14But when it was nowthe midstof the feastJesuswentup into the temple,and [began to] teach.15The Jewsthenwere astonished,saying,"Howhas this manbecome learned,having neverbeen educated?"16SoJesusansweredthem and said,"My teachingis not Mine,but His who sentMe.17"Ifanyoneis willingto doHis will,he will knowof the teaching,whetherit is of Godor[whether] I speakfrom Myself.18"He who speaksfrom himselfseekshis ownglory;but He who is seekingthe gloryof the One who sentHim, He is true,and there is nounrighteousnessin Him.
19"Did not Mosesgiveyou the Law,and [yet] noneof you carriesout the Law?Whydo you seekto killMe?"20The crowdanswered,"You havea demon!Whoseeksto killYou?"21Jesusansweredthem, "I didonedeed,and you allmarvel.22"For thisreasonMoseshas givenyou circumcision(not becauseit is from Moses,but from the fathers),and on [the] Sabbathyou circumcisea man.23"Ifa manreceivescircumcisionon [the] Sabbathsothat the Lawof Moseswill not be broken,are you angrywith Me becauseI madean entiremanwellon [the] Sabbath?24"Do not judgeaccordingto appearance,but judgewith righteousjudgment."
25Sosomeof the people of Jerusalemwere saying,"Is thisnot the man whomthey are seekingto kill?26"Look,He is speakingpublicly,and they are sayingnothingto Him. The rulersdo not reallyknowthat thisis the Christ,do they?27"However,we knowwherethis manis from; but wheneverthe Christmay come,no oneknowswhereHe is from."28ThenJesuscriedout in the temple,teachingand saying,"You bothknow Me and knowwhereI amfrom; and I have not comeof Myself,but He who sentMe is true,whomyou do not know.29"I knowHim, becauseI amfrom Him, and He sentMe."30Sothey were seekingto seizeHim; and no manlaidhis handon Him, becauseHis hourhad not yetcome.31But manyof the crowdbelievedin Him; and they were saying,"Whenthe Christcomes,He will not performmoresignsthan those whichthis manhas, will He?"
32The Phariseesheardthe crowdmutteringthese thingsaboutHim, and the chief priestsand the Phariseessentofficersto seizeHim.33ThereforeJesussaid,"For a littlewhilelongerI amwith you, thenI goto Him who sentMe.34"You will seekMe, and will not findMe; and whereI am,you cannotcome."35The Jewsthensaidto one another,"Wheredoes this manintendto gothat we will not findHim? He is not intendingto goto the Dispersionamong the Greeks,and teachthe Greeks,is He?36"Whatis thisstatementthat He said,You will seekMe, and will not findMe; and whereI am,you cannotcome'?"
37Nowon the lastday,the great[day] of the feast,Jesusstoodand criedout, saying,"Ifanyoneis thirsty,let him cometo Me and drink.38"He who believesin Me, as the Scripturesaid,From his innermost beingwill flowriversof livingwater.'"39But thisHe spokeof the Spirit,whomthosewho believedin Him were to receive;for the Spiritwas not yet[given], becauseJesuswas not yetglorified.
40[Some] of the peopletherefore,when they heardthesewords,were saying,"Thiscertainlyis the Prophet."41Otherswere saying,"Thisis the Christ."Still otherswere saying,"Surelythe Christis not going to comefrom Galilee,is He?42"Has not the Scripturesaidthat the Christcomesfrom the descendantsof David,and from Bethlehem,the villagewhereDavidwas?"43Soa divisionoccurredin the crowdbecauseof Him.44Someof them wantedto seizeHim, but no onelaidhandson Him.
45The officersthencameto the chief priestsand Pharisees,and they saidto them, "Whydid you not bringHim?"46The officersanswered,"Neverhas a manspokenthe way thismanspeaks."47The Phariseesthenansweredthem, "You have not alsobeen led astray,have you?48"Nooneof the rulersorPhariseeshas believedin Him, has he?49"But thiscrowdwhich does not knowthe Lawis accursed."50Nicodemus(he who cameto Him before,beingoneof them) saidto them,51"Our Lawdoes not judgea manunlessit firsthearsfrom him and knowswhathe is doing,does it?"52They answeredhim, "You are not alsofrom Galilee,are you? Search,and seethat noprophetarisesout of Galilee."53[Everyonewentto his home.
