1The visionof Isaiahthe sonof AmozconcerningJudahand Jerusalem,whichhe sawduring the reignsof Uzziah,Jotham,Ahaz[and] Hezekiah,kingsof Judah.
2Listen,O heavens,and hear,O earth;For the LORDspeaks,"SonsI have rearedand broughtup, But they have revoltedagainst Me.
3"An oxknowsits owner,And a donkeyits master'smanger,[But] Israeldoes not know,My peopledo not understand."
4Alas,sinfulnation,Peopleweigheddownwith iniquity,Offspringof evildoers,Sonswho actcorruptly!They have abandonedthe LORD,They have despisedthe HolyOneof Israel,They have turnedawayfrom Him.
5Wherewill you be strickenagain,[As] you continuein [your] rebellion?The wholeheadis sickAnd the wholeheartis faint.
6From the soleof the footeven to the headThereis nothingsoundin it, [Only] bruises,weltsand rawwounds,Not pressedout or bandaged,Norsoftenedwith oil.
7Your landis desolate,Your citiesare burnedwith fire,Your fields--strangersare devouringthem in your presence;It is desolation,as overthrownby strangers.
8The daughterof Zionis leftlike a shelterin a vineyard,Like a watchman'shutin a cucumberfield,like a besiegedcity.
9Unlessthe LORDof hostsHad leftus a fewsurvivors,We would be like Sodom,We would be likeGomorrah.
10Hearthe wordof the LORD,You rulersof Sodom;Giveearto the instructionof our God,You peopleof Gomorrah.
11"Whatare your multipliedsacrificesto Me?" Saysthe LORD."I have hadenoughof burntofferingsof ramsAnd the fatof fedcattle;And I takenopleasurein the bloodof bulls,lambsor goats.
12"Whenyou cometo appearbeforeMe, Whorequiresof you thistramplingof My courts?
13"Bringyour worthlessofferingsnolonger,Incenseis an abominationto Me. Newmoonand sabbath,the callingof assemblies--I cannotendureiniquityand the solemnassembly.
14"I hateyour newmoon[festivals] and your appointedfeasts,They have becomea burdento Me; I am wearyof bearing[them].
15"So when you spreadout your hands[in prayer], I will hideMy eyesfrom you; Yes,eventhoughyou multiplyprayers,I will not listen.Your handsare coveredwith blood.
16"Washyourselves, makeyourselves clean;Removethe evilof your deedsfrom My sight.Ceaseto do evil,
17Learnto dogood;Seekjustice,Reprovethe ruthless,Defendthe orphan,Pleadfor the widow.
18"Comenow,and let us reasontogether," Saysthe LORD,"Thoughyour sinsare as scarlet,They will be as whiteas snow;Thoughthey are redlike crimson,They will be like wool.
19"Ifyou consentand obey,You will eatthe bestof the land;
20"But ifyou refuseand rebel,You will be devouredby the sword."Truly,the mouthof the LORDhas spoken.
21Howthe faithfulcityhas becomea harlot,She [who] was fullof justice!Righteousnessonce lodgedin her, But nowmurderers.
22Your silverhas becomedross,Your drinkdilutedwith water.
23Your rulersare rebelsAnd companionsof thieves;Everyonelovesa bribeAnd chasesafter rewards.They do not defendthe orphan,Nordoes the widow'spleacomebeforethem.
24Thereforethe LordGODof hosts,The MightyOneof Israel,declares,"Ah,I will be relievedof My adversariesAnd avengeMyself on My foes.
25"I will also turnMy handagainstyou, And will smeltaway your drossas with lyeAnd will removeallyour alloy.
26"Then I will restoreyour judgesas at the first,And your counselorsas at the beginning;Afterthat you will be calledthe cityof righteousness,A faithfulcity."
27Zionwill be redeemedwith justiceAnd her repentantones with righteousness.
28But transgressorsand sinnerswill be crushedtogether,And those who forsakethe LORDwill cometo an end.
29Surelyyou will be ashamedof the oakswhichyou have desired,And you will be embarrassedat the gardenswhichyou have chosen.
30For you will be like an oakwhose leaffadesawayOr as a gardenthat hasnowater.
31The strongmanwill becometinder,His workalso a spark.Thus they shall bothburntogetherAnd therewill be noneto quench[them].
