1Whenwe had partedfrom them and had set sail,we ran a straight courseto Cosand the nextday to Rhodesand from thereto Patara;2and having founda shipcrossing overto Phoenicia,we went aboardand set sail.3When we came in sightof Cyprus,leavingit on the left,we kept sailingto Syriaand landedat Tyre;for therethe shipwas to unloadits cargo.4After lookingup the disciples,we stayedtheresevendays;and they kept tellingPaulthroughthe Spiritnot to set footin Jerusalem.5Whenour daysthere were ended,we leftand startedon our journey,while they all,with wivesand children,escortedus until[we were] out of the city.After kneelingdownon the beachand praying,we said farewellto one another.6Thenwe went on boardthe ship,and they returnedhomeagain.

7When we had finishedthe voyagefrom Tyre,we arrivedat Ptolemais,and after greetingthe brethren,we stayedwith them for a day.8On the next daywe leftand cameto Caesarea,and enteringthe houseof Philipthe evangelist,who was one of the seven,we stayedwith him.9Nowthis manhadfourvirgindaughterswho were prophetesses.10As we were stayingthere for somedays,a prophetnamedAgabuscame downfrom Judea.11And comingto us, he tookPaul'sbeltand boundhis ownfeetand hands,and said,"This is whatthe HolySpiritsays:'In this waythe Jewsat Jerusalemwill bindthe manwhoownsthisbeltand deliverhim into the handsof the Gentiles.'"12Whenwe had heardthis,we as wellas the local residents[began] begginghim not to goup to Jerusalem.13ThenPaulanswered,"Whatare you doing,weepingand breakingmy heart?For I amreadynot onlyto be bound,but evento dieat Jerusalemfor the nameof the LordJesus."14And since he would not be persuaded,we fell silent,remarking,"The willof the Lordbe done!"

15Afterthesedayswe got readyand started on our wayup to Jerusalem.16[Some] of the disciplesfrom Caesareaalsocamewith us, takingus to Mnasonof Cyprus,a discipleof long standingwith whomwe were to lodge.

17Afterwe arrivedin Jerusalem,the brethrenreceivedus gladly.18And the followingday Paulwentin with us to James,and allthe elderswere present.19After he had greetedthem, he [began] to relateone by onethe things whichGodhad doneamongthe Gentilesthroughhis ministry.20And when they heardit they [began] glorifyingGod;and they saidto him, "You see,brother,how manythousandsthere are amongthe Jewsof thosewho have believed,and they are allzealousfor the Law;21and they have been toldaboutyou, that you are teachingallthe Jewswho are amongthe Gentilesto forsakeMoses,tellingthem not to circumcisetheir childrennorto walkaccording to the customs.22"What,then,is [to be done]? They will certainlyhearthat you have come.23"Thereforedothisthat we tellyou. We have fourmenwho are undera vow;24takethem and purifyyourself alongwith them, and pay their expensessothat they may shavetheir heads;and allwill knowthat there is nothingto the things whichthey have been toldaboutyou, but that you yourselfalsowalk orderly,keepingthe Law.25"But concerningthe Gentileswho have believed,we wrote,having decidedthat they should abstainfrom meatsacrificed to idolsand from bloodand from what is strangledand from fornication."26ThenPaultookthe men,and the nextday,purifyinghimself alongwith them, wentinto the templegiving noticeof the completionof the daysof purification,untilthe sacrificewas offeredfor eachoneof them.

27Whenthe sevendayswere almostover,the Jewsfrom Asia,upon seeinghim in the temple,[began] to stirup allthe crowdand laidhandson him,28cryingout, "Menof Israel,come to our aid!Thisis the manwho preachesto all meneverywhereagainstour peopleand the Lawand thisplace;and besideshe has evenbroughtGreeksinto the templeand has defiledthisholyplace."29For they had previously seenTrophimusthe Ephesianin the citywith him, and they supposedthat Paulhad broughthim into the temple.30Thenallthe citywas provoked,and the peoplerushed together,and taking holdof Paulthey draggedhim out of the temple,and immediatelythe doorswere shut.31While they were seekingto killhim, a reportcameup to the commanderof the [Roman] cohortthat allJerusalemwas in confusion.32At oncehe took along[some] soldiersand centurionsand ran downto them; and when they sawthe commanderand the soldiers,they stoppedbeatingPaul.33Thenthe commandercameup and took holdof him, and orderedhim to be boundwith twochains;and he [began] askingwhohe was and whathe had done.34But amongthe crowdsomewere shoutingone thing [and] some another,and when he couldnot findout the factsbecauseof the uproar,he orderedhim to be broughtinto the barracks.35Whenhe gotto the stairs,he was carriedby the soldiersbecauseof the violenceof the mob;36for the multitudeof the peoplekept followingthem, shouting,"Awaywith him!"

37As Paulwas aboutto be broughtinto the barracks,he saidto the commander,"MayI saysomethingto you?" And he said,"Do you knowGreek?38"Thenyou are not the Egyptianwho sometimeagostirred up a revoltand ledthe four thousandmenof the Assassinsout into the wilderness?"39But Paulsaid,"I ama Jewof Tarsusin Cilicia,a citizenof noinsignificantcity;and I begyou, allowme to speakto the people."40When he had given him permission,Paul,standingon the stairs,motionedto the peoplewith his hand;and when there was a greathush,he spoketo them in the Hebrewdialect,saying,
