1Now Elishathe prophetcalledoneof the sonsof the prophetsand saidto him, "Girdup your loins,and takethisflaskof oilin your handand goto Ramoth-gilead.2"When you arrivethere,searchout Jehuthe sonof Jehoshaphatthe sonof Nimshi,and goin and bid him arisefrom amonghis brothers,and bringhim to an innerroom.3"Then takethe flaskof oiland pourit on his headand say,'Thussaysthe LORD,"I have anointedyou kingoverIsrael."'Then openthe doorand fleeand do not wait."
4So the youngman,the servantof the prophet,wentto Ramoth-gilead.5When he came,behold,the captainsof the armywere sitting,and he said,"I have a wordfor you, O captain."And Jehusaid,"For which[one] of us?" And he said,"For you, O captain."6He aroseand wentinto the house,and he pouredthe oilon his headand saidto him, "Thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,I have anointedyou kingoverthe peopleof the LORD,[even] overIsrael.7You shall strikethe houseof Ahabyour master,that I may avengethe bloodof My servantsthe prophets,and the bloodof allthe servantsof the LORD,at the handof Jezebel.8For the wholehouseof Ahabshall perish,and I will cutofffrom Ahabeverymaleperson both bondand freein Israel.9I will makethe houseof Ahablike the houseof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,and like the houseof Baashathe sonof Ahijah.10The dogsshall eatJezebelin the territoryof Jezreel,and noneshall bury[her].'" Then he openedthe doorand fled.
11Now Jehucameout to the servantsof his master,and one saidto him, "Is all well?Whydid thismadfellowcometo you?" And he saidto them, "You know[very well] the manand his talk."12They said,"It is a lie,tellus now."And he said,"Thusand thushe saidto me, 'Thussaysthe LORD,"I have anointedyou kingoverIsrael."'"13Then they hurriedand eachmantookhis garmentand placedit underhim on the baresteps,and blewthe trumpet,saying,"Jehuis king!"
14So Jehuthe sonof Jehoshaphatthe sonof NimshiconspiredagainstJoram.Now Joramwith allIsraelwas defendingRamoth-gileadagainstHazaelkingof Aram,15but KingJoramhad returnedto Jezreelto be healedof the woundswhichthe Arameanshad inflictedon him when he foughtwith Hazaelkingof Aram.So Jehusaid,"Ifthis is your mind,[then] let nooneescape[or] leavethe cityto gotell[it] in Jezreel."16Then Jehurodein a chariotand wentto Jezreel,for Joramwas lyingthere.Ahaziahkingof Judahhad comedownto seeJoram.
17Now the watchmanwas standingon the towerin Jezreeland he sawthe companyof Jehuas he came,and said,"I seea company."And Joramsaid,"Takea horsemanand sendhim to meetthem and let him say,'Is it peace?'"18So a horsemanwentto meethim and said,"Thussaysthe king,'Is it peace?'"And Jehusaid,"Whathave you to do with peace?Turnbehindme." And the watchmanreported,"The messengercameto them, but he did not return."19Then he sentout a secondhorseman,who cameto them and said,"Thussaysthe king,'Is it peace?'"And Jehuanswered,"Whathave you to do with peace?Turnbehindme."20The watchmanreported,"He cameevento them, and he did not return;and the drivingis like the drivingof Jehuthe sonof Nimshi,for he drivesfuriously."
21Then Joramsaid,"Getready."And they madehis chariotready.Joramkingof Israeland Ahaziahkingof Judahwentout, eachin his chariot,and they wentout to meetJehuand foundhim in the propertyof Naboththe Jezreelite.22When JoramsawJehu,he said,"Is it peace,Jehu?"And he answered,"Whatpeace,solongas the harlotriesof your motherJezebeland her witchcraftsare so many?"23So Joramreinedaboutand fledand saidto Ahaziah,"[There is] treachery,O Ahaziah!"24And Jehudrewhis bowwith his fullstrengthand shotJorambetweenhis arms;and the arrowwentthroughhis heartand he sankin his chariot.25Then [Jehu] saidto Bidkarhis officer,"Take[him] up and casthim into the propertyof the fieldof Naboththe Jezreelite,for I rememberwhen you and I were ridingtogetherafterAhabhis father,that the LORDlaidthisoracleagainsthim:26SurelyI have seenyesterdaythe bloodof Nabothand the bloodof his sons,'saysthe LORD,and I will repayyou in thisproperty,'saysthe LORD.Nowthen, takeand casthim into the property,according to the wordof the LORD."
27When Ahaziahthe kingof Judahsaw[this], he fledby the wayof the gardenhouse.And Jehupursuedhim and said,"Shoothim too,in the chariot."[So they shot him] at the ascentof Gur,whichis at Ibleam.But he fledto Megiddoand diedthere.28Then his servantscarriedhim in a chariotto Jerusalemand buriedhim in his gravewith his fathersin the cityof David.
29Now in the eleventhyearof Joram,the sonof Ahab,AhaziahbecamekingoverJudah.
30When Jehucameto Jezreel,Jezebelheard[of it], and she paintedher eyesand adornedher headand lookedout the window.31As Jehuenteredthe gate,she said,"Is it well,Zimri,your master'smurderer?"32Then he liftedup his faceto the windowand said,"Whois on my side?Who?"And twoor threeofficialslookeddownat him.
33He said,"Throwher down."So they threwher down,and someof her bloodwas sprinkledon the walland on the horses,and he trampledher under foot.34When he camein, he ateand drank;and he said,"Seenowto thiscursedwomanand buryher, for she is a king'sdaughter."35They wentto buryher, but they foundnothingmoreof her thanthe skulland the feetand the palmsof her hands.36Therefore they returnedand toldhim. And he said,"Thisis the wordof the LORD,whichHe spokeby His servantElijahthe Tishbite,saying,In the propertyof Jezreelthe dogsshall eatthe fleshof Jezebel;37and the corpseof Jezebelwill be as dungon the faceof the fieldin the propertyof Jezreel,sothey cannotsay,"Thisis Jezebel."'"
