1Now Elishaspoketo the womanwhosesonhe had restoredto life,saying,"Ariseand gowith your household,and sojournwhereveryou can sojourn;for the LORDhas calledfor a famine,and it will evencomeon the landfor sevenyears."2So the womanaroseand didaccording to the wordof the manof God,and she wentwith her householdand sojournedin the landof the Philistinessevenyears.3At the endof sevenyears,the womanreturnedfrom the landof the Philistines;and she wentout to appealto the kingfor her houseand for her field.4Now the kingwas talkingwith Gehazi,the servantof the manof God,saying,"Pleaserelateto me allthe greatthingsthat Elishahas done."5As he was relatingto the kinghowhe had restoredto lifethe one who was dead,behold,the womanwhosesonhe had restoredto lifeappealedto the kingfor her houseand for her field.And Gehazisaid,"My lord,O king,thisis the womanand thisis her son,whomElisharestoredto life."6When the kingaskedthe woman,she related[it] to him. So the kingappointedfor her a certainofficer,saying,"Restoreallthat was hers and allthe produceof the fieldfrom the daythat she leftthe landeven untilnow."
7Then Elishacameto Damascus.Now Ben-hadadkingof Aramwas sick,and it was toldhim, saying,"The manof Godhas comehere."8The kingsaidto Hazael,"Takea giftin your handand goto meetthe manof God,and inquireof the LORDby him, saying,'Will I recoverfrom thissickness?'"9So Hazaelwentto meethim and tooka giftin his hand,even everykind of goodthingof Damascus,fortycamels'loads;and he cameand stoodbeforehim and said,"Your sonBen-hadadkingof Aramhas sentme to you, saying,'Will I recoverfrom thissickness?'"10Then Elishasaidto him, "Go,sayto him, 'You will surelyrecover,'but the LORDhas shownme that he will certainlydie."11He fixedhis gazesteadily[on him] untilhe was ashamed,and the manof Godwept.12Hazaelsaid,"Whydoes my lordweep?"Then he answered,"BecauseI knowthe evilthat you will doto the sonsof Israel:their strongholdsyou will seton fire,and their youngmenyou will killwith the sword,and their littleonesyou will dashin pieces,and their womenwith childyou will ripup."13Then Hazaelsaid,"But whatis your servant,[who is but] a dog,that he should dothisgreatthing?"And Elishaanswered,"The LORDhas shownme that you will be kingoverAram."14So he departedfrom Elishaand returnedto his master,who saidto him, "Whatdid Elishasayto you?" And he answered,"He toldme that you would surelyrecover."15On the followingday,he tookthe coverand dippedit in waterand spreadit on his face,so that he died.And Hazaelbecamekingin his place.
16Now in the fifthyearof Joramthe sonof Ahabkingof Israel,Jehoshaphatbeing then the kingof Judah,Jehoramthe sonof Jehoshaphatkingof Judahbecameking.17He was thirty-twoyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedeightyearsin Jerusalem.18He walkedin the wayof the kingsof Israel,justas the houseof Ahabhad done,for the daughterof Ahabbecamehis wife;and he didevilin the sightof the LORD.19However, the LORDwas not willingto destroyJudah,for the sakeof DavidHis servant,sinceHe had promisedhim to givea lampto him through his sonsalways.
20In his daysEdomrevoltedfrom underthe handof Judah,and madea kingoverthemselves.21Then Joramcrossedoverto Zair,and allhis chariotswith him. And he aroseby nightand struckthe Edomiteswho had surroundedhim and the captainsof the chariots;but [his] armyfledto their tents.22So EdomrevoltedagainstJudahto thisday.ThenLibnahrevoltedat the sametime.23The restof the actsof Joramand allthat he did,are they not writtenin the Bookof the Chroniclesof the Kingsof Judah?
24So Joramsleptwith his fathersand was buriedwith his fathersin the cityof David;and Ahaziahhis sonbecamekingin his place.
25In the twelfthyearof Joramthe sonof Ahabkingof Israel,Ahaziahthe sonof Jehoramkingof Judahbegan to reign.26Ahaziah[was] twenty-twoyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedoneyearin Jerusalem.And his mother'sname[was] Athaliahthe granddaughterof Omrikingof Israel.27He walkedin the wayof the houseof Ahaband didevilin the sightof the LORD,like the houseof Ahab[had done], becausehe was a son-in-lawof the houseof Ahab.
28Then he wentwith Joramthe sonof Ahabto waragainstHazaelkingof Aramat Ramoth-gilead,and the ArameanswoundedJoram.29So KingJoramreturnedto be healedin Jezreelof the woundswhichthe Arameanshad inflictedon him at Ramahwhen he foughtagainstHazaelkingof Aram.Then Ahaziahthe sonof Jehoramkingof Judahwentdownto seeJoramthe sonof Ahabin Jezreelbecausehe was sick.
