1In the secondyearof Joashsonof Joahazkingof Israel,Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof Judahbecameking.2He was twenty-fiveyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedtwenty-nineyearsin Jerusalem.And his mother'snamewas Jehoaddinof Jerusalem.3He didrightin the sightof the LORD,yetnot like Davidhis father;he didaccording to allthat Joashhis fatherhaddone.4Onlythe highplaceswere not takenaway;the peoplestillsacrificedand burnedincenseon the highplaces.5Now it cameabout, as soonas the kingdomwas firmlyin his hand,that he killedhis servantswho had slainthe kinghis father.6But the sonsof the slayershe did not putto death,according to what is writtenin the bookof the Lawof Moses,as the LORDcommanded,saying,"The fathersshall not be putto deathfor the sons,northe sonsbe putto deathfor the fathers;but eachshall be putto deathfor his own sin."
7He killed[of] Edomin the Valleyof Salt10000and tookSelaby war,and namedit Joktheelto thisday.
8ThenAmaziahsentmessengersto Jehoash,the sonof Jehoahazsonof Jehu,kingof Israel,saying,"Come,let us faceeach other."9Jehoashkingof Israelsentto Amaziahkingof Judah,saying,"The thornbushwhichwas in Lebanonsentto the cedarwhichwas in Lebanon,saying,'Giveyour daughterto my sonin marriage.'But there passedby a wildbeastthat was in Lebanon,and trampledthe thornbush.10"You have indeeddefeatedEdom,and your hearthas becomeproud.Enjoyyour gloryand stayat home;for whyshould you provoketroubleso that you, even you, would fall,and Judahwith you?"
11But Amaziahwould not listen.So Jehoashkingof Israelwentup; and he and Amaziahkingof Judahfacedeach other at Beth-shemesh,whichbelongs to Judah.12Judahwas defeatedby Israel,and they fledeachto his tent.13Then Jehoashkingof IsraelcapturedAmaziahkingof Judah,the sonof Jehoashthe sonof Ahaziah,at Beth-shemesh,and cameto Jerusalemand toredownthe wallof Jerusalemfrom the Gateof Ephraimto the CornerGate,400cubits.14He tookallthe goldand silverand allthe utensilswhich were foundin the houseof the LORD,and in the treasuriesof the king'shouse,the hostagesalso, and returnedto Samaria.
15Now the restof the actsof Jehoashwhichhe did,and his mightand howhe foughtwith Amaziahkingof Judah,are they not writtenin the Bookof the Chroniclesof the Kingsof Israel?16So Jehoashsleptwith his fathersand was buriedin Samariawith the kingsof Israel;and Jeroboamhis sonbecamekingin his place.
17Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof Judahlivedfifteenyearsafterthe deathof Jehoashsonof Jehoahazkingof Israel.18Now the restof the actsof Amaziah,are they not writtenin the Bookof the Chroniclesof the Kingsof Judah?19They conspiredagainsthim in Jerusalem,and he fledto Lachish;but they sentafterhim to Lachishand killedhim there.20Then they broughthim on horsesand he was buriedat Jerusalemwith his fathersin the cityof David.21Allthe peopleof JudahtookAzariah,who[was] sixteenyearsold,and madehim kingin the placeof his fatherAmaziah.22He builtElathand restoredit to Judahafterthe kingsleptwith his fathers.
23In the fifteenthyearof Amaziahthe sonof Joashkingof Judah,Jeroboamthe sonof Joashkingof Israelbecamekingin Samaria,[and reigned] forty-oneyears.24He didevilin the sightof the LORD;he did not departfrom allthe sinsof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,whichhe made Israelsin.25He restoredthe borderof Israelfrom the entranceof Hamathas faras the Seaof the Arabah,according to the wordof the LORD,the Godof Israel,whichHe spokethroughHis servantJonahthe sonof Amittai,the prophet,whowas of Gath-hepher.26For the LORDsawthe afflictionof Israel,[which was] verybitter;for there was neitherbondnorfree,norwas thereany helperfor Israel.27The LORDdid not saythat He would blotout the nameof Israelfrom underheaven,but He savedthem by the handof Jeroboamthe sonof Joash.
28Now the restof the actsof Jeroboamand allthat he didand his might,howhe foughtand howhe recoveredfor Israel,Damascusand Hamath,[which had belonged] to Judah,are they not writtenin the Bookof the Chroniclesof the Kingsof Israel?29And Jeroboamsleptwith his fathers,even with the kingsof Israel,and Zechariahhis sonbecamekingin his place.
