1Now theseare the ones who cameto Davidat Ziklag,while he was stillrestrictedbecauseof Saulthe sonof Kish;and they were among the mightymenwho helped[him] in war.2They were equippedwith bows,using both the righthandand the left[to sling] stonesand [to shoot] arrowsfrom the bow;[they were] Saul'skinsmenfrom Benjamin.3The chiefwas Ahiezer,then Joash,the sonsof Shemaahthe Gibeathite;and Jezieland Pelet,the sonsof Azmaveth,and Beracahand Jehuthe Anathothite,4and Ishmaiahthe Gibeonite,a mightymanamong the thirty,and overthe thirty.Then Jeremiah,Jahaziel,Johanan,Jozabadthe Gederathite,5Eluzai,Jerimoth,Bealiah,Shemariah,Shephatiahthe Haruphite,6Elkanah,Isshiah,Azarel,Joezer,Jashobeam,the Korahites,7and Joelahand Zebadiah,the sonsof Jerohamof Gedor.

8From the Gaditesthere cameoverto Davidin the strongholdin the wilderness,mightymenof valor,mentrainedfor war,who could handleshieldand spear,and whose faceswere like the facesof lions,and [they were] as swiftas the gazelleson the mountains.9Ezer[was] the first,Obadiahthe second,Eliabthe third,10Mishmannahthe fourth,Jeremiahthe fifth,11Attaithe sixth,Elielthe seventh,12Johananthe eighth,Elzabadthe ninth,13Jeremiahthe tenth,Machbannaithe eleventh.14Theseof the sonsof Gadwere captainsof the army;he who was leastwas equal to a hundredand the greatestto a thousand.15Theseare the oneswhocrossedthe Jordanin the firstmonthwhen it was overflowingallits banksand they putto flightallthose in the valleys,both to the eastand to the west.

16Then someof the sonsof Benjaminand Judahcameto the strongholdto David.17Davidwentout to meetthem, and saidto them, "Ifyou comepeacefullyto me to helpme, my heartshall be unitedwith you; but ifto betrayme to my adversaries,since there is nowrongin my hands,may the Godof our fatherslookon [it] and decide."

18Then the Spiritcameupon Amasai,who was the chiefof the thirty,[and he said], "[We] are yours, O David,And with you, O sonof Jesse!Peace,peaceto you, And peaceto him who helpsyou; Indeed,your Godhelpsyou!" Then Davidreceivedthem and madethem captainsof the band.

19From Manassehalso somedefectedto Davidwhen he was about to goto battlewith the PhilistinesagainstSaul.But they did not helpthem, for the lordsof the Philistinesafter consultationsenthim away,saying,"At [the cost of] our headshe may defectto his masterSaul."20As he wentto Ziklagthere defectedto him from Manasseh:Adnah,Jozabad,Jediael,Michael,Jozabad,Elihuand Zillethai,captainsof thousandswhobelonged to Manasseh.21They helpedDavidagainstthe bandof raiders,for they were allmightymenof valor,and were captainsin the army.22For dayby day[men] cameto Davidto helphim, untilthere was a greatarmylike the armyof God.

23Now theseare the numbersof the divisionsequippedfor war,who cameto Davidat Hebron,to turnthe kingdomof Saulto him, according to the wordof the LORD.24The sonsof Judahwho boreshieldand spear[were] 6,800,equippedfor war.25Of the sonsof Simeon,mightymenof valorfor war,7,10026Of the sonsof Levi4,60027Now Jehoiadawas the leaderof [the house of] Aaron,and with him were 3,700,28also Zadok,a youngmanmightyof valor,and of his father'shousetwenty-twocaptains.29Of the sonsof Benjamin,Saul'skinsmen,3,000;for untilnowthe greatestpartof them had kepttheir allegianceto the houseof Saul.30Of the sonsof Ephraim20,800,mightymenof valor,famousmenin their fathers'households.31Of the half-tribeof Manasseh18,000,whowere designatedby nameto comeand makeDavidking.32Of the sonsof Issachar,men who understoodthe times,with knowledgeof whatIsraelshould do,their chiefs[were] two hundred;and alltheir kinsmen[were] at their command.33Of Zebulun,there were 50,000who wentout in the army,who could drawup in battleformationwith allkinds of weaponsof warand helped[David] with an undividedheart.34Of Naphtali[there were] 1,000captains,and with them 37,000with shieldand spear.35Of the Daniteswho could drawup in battleformation,[there were] 28,60036Of Asher[there were] 40,000who wentout in the armyto drawup in battleformation.37From the othersideof the Jordan,of the Reubenitesand the Gaditesand of the half-tribeof Manasseh,[there were] 120,000with all[kinds] of weaponsof warfor the battle.

38Allthese,being menof warwho could drawup in battleformation,cameto Hebronwith a perfectheartto makeDavidkingoverallIsrael;and allthe restalsoof Israelwere of onemindto makeDavidking.39They were therewith Davidthreedays,eatingand drinking,for their kinsmenhad preparedfor them.40Moreover those who were nearto them, [even] as faras Issacharand Zebulunand Naphtali,broughtfoodon donkeys,camels,mulesand on oxen,greatquantitiesof flourcakes,figcakesand bunchesof raisins,wine,oil,oxenand sheep.There was joyindeedin Israel.
