(Isaiah 57:14-21;Jeremiah 3:11-25;Hosea 14:1-3) 1In the eighthmonth,in the secondyearof Darius,came the wordof the LORDunto Zechariah,the sonof Berechiah,the sonof Iddothe prophet,saying,2The LORDhath been soredispleasedwith your fathers.3Therefore saythou unto them, Thus saiththe LORDof hosts;Turnye unto me, saiththe LORDof hosts,and I will turnunto you, saiththe LORDof hosts.4Be ye not as your fathers,unto whom the formerprophetshave cried,saying,Thus saiththe LORDof hosts;Turnye now from your evilways,and [from] your evildoings:but they did not hear,nor hearkenunto me, saiththe LORD.5Your fathers,where [are] they? and the prophets,do they livefor ever?6But my wordsand my statutes,which I commandedmy servantsthe prophets,did they not take holdof your fathers?and they returnedand said,Like as the LORDof hoststhoughtto dounto us, according to our ways,and according to our doings,so hath he dealtwith us. A Man among the Myrtle Trees 7Upon the fourand twentiethdayof the eleventhmonth,which [is] the monthSebat,in the secondyearof Darius,came the wordof the LORDunto Zechariah,the sonof Berechiah,the sonof Iddothe prophet,saying,8I sawby night,and behold a manridingupon a redhorse,and he stoodamong the myrtle treesthat [were] in the bottom;and behindhim [were there] redhorses,speckled,and white.9Then saidI, O my lord,what [are] these? And the angelthat talkedwith me saidunto me, I will shewthee what these [be].10And the manthat stoodamong the myrtle treesansweredand said,These [are they] whom the LORDhath sentto walkto and fro through the earth.11And they answeredthe angelof the LORDthat stoodamong the myrtle trees,and said,We have walked to and frothrough the earth,and, behold, all the earthsitteth still,and is at rest. Mercy Promised to Jerusalem 12Then the angelof the LORDansweredand said,O LORDof hosts,how long wilt thou not have mercyon Jerusalemand on the citiesof Judah,against which thou hast had indignationthese threescore and tenyears?13And the LORDansweredthe angelthat talkedwith me [with] goodwords[and] comfortablewords.14So the angelthat communedwith me saidunto me, Crythou, saying,Thus saiththe LORDof hosts;I am jealousfor Jerusalemand for Zionwith a greatjealousy.15And I am verysoredispleasedwith the heathen[that are] at ease:for I was but a littledispleased,and they helpedforward the affliction.16Therefore thus saiththe LORD;I am returnedto Jerusalemwith mercies:my houseshall be builtin it, saiththe LORDof hosts,and a lineshall be stretched forthupon Jerusalem.17Cryyet, saying,Thus saiththe LORDof hosts;My citiesthrough prosperityshall yet be spread abroad;and the LORDshall yet comfortZion,and shall yet chooseJerusalem. The Four Horns and Four Craftsmen 18Then lifted I upmine eyes,and saw,and behold fourhorns.19And I saidunto the angelthat talkedwith me, What [be] these? And he answeredme, These [are] the hornswhich have scatteredJudah,Israel,and Jerusalem.20And the LORDshewedme fourcarpenters.21Then saidI, What comethese to do?And he spake,saying,These [are] the hornswhich have scatteredJudah,so thatno mandid lift uphis head:but these are cometo fraythem, to cast outthe hornsof the Gentiles,which lifted up[their] hornover the landof Judahto scatterit. |
