Do Not Boast about Tomorrow
1Boastnot thyself of to morrow;for thou knowestnot what a daymay bring forth.
2Let another manpraisethee, and not thine own mouth;a stranger,and not thine own lips.
3A stone[is] heavy,and the sandweighty;but a fool'swrath[is] heavierthan them both.
4Wrath[is] cruel,and anger[is] outrageous;but who [is] able to standbeforeenvy?
5Openrebuke[is] betterthan secretlove.
6Faithful[are] the woundsof a friend;but the kissesof an enemy[are] deceitful.
7The fullsoulloathethan honeycomb;but to the hungrysoulevery bitter thingis sweet.
8As a birdthat wanderethfrom her nest,so [is] a manthat wanderethfrom his place.
9Ointmentand perfumerejoicethe heart:so [doth] the sweetnessof a man's friendby heartycounsel.
10Thine own friend,and thy father'sfriend,forsakenot; neither gointo thy brother'shousein the dayof thy calamity:[for] better[is] a neighbour[that is] nearthan a brotherfar off.
11My son,be wise,and make my heartglad,that I may answerhim that reproachethme.
12A prudent[man] foreseeththe evil,[and] hidethhimself; [but] the simplepass on,[and] are punished.
13Takehis garmentthat is suretyfor a stranger,and take a pledgeof him for a strange woman.
14He that blessethhis friendwith a loudvoice,rising earlyin the morning,it shall be counteda curseto him.
15A continualdroppingin a very rainydayand a contentiouswomanare alike.
16Whosoever hidethher hideththe wind,and the ointmentof his right hand,[which] bewrayeth[itself].
17Ironsharpenethiron;so a mansharpeneththe countenanceof his friend.
18Whoso keepeththe fig treeshall eatthe fruitthereof: so he that waitethon his mastershall be honoured.
19As in waterface[answereth] to face,so the heartof manto man.
20Helland destructionare neverfull;so the eyesof manare never satisfied.
21[As] the fining potfor silver,and the furnacefor gold;so [is] a mantohis praise.
22Though thou shouldest braya foolin a mortaramongwheatwith a pestle,[yet] will not his foolishnessdepartfrom him.
23Be thou diligentto knowthe stateof thy flocks,[and] lookwellto thy herds.
24For riches[are] not for ever:and doth the crown[endure] to everygeneration?
25The hayappeareth,and the tender grassshewethitself, and herbsof the mountainsare gathered.
26The lambs[are] for thy clothing,and the goats[are] the priceof the field.
27And [thou shalt have] goats'milkenoughfor thy food,for the foodof thy household,and [for] the maintenancefor thy maidens.
