A Good Name More Desirable than Riches
1A [good] name[is] rather to be chosenthan greatriches,[and] lovingfavourrather than silverand gold.
2The richand poormeet together:the LORD[is] the makerof them all.
3A prudent[man] foreseeththe evil,and hideth{08675;05641:08799} himself: but the simplepass on,and are punished.
4Byhumility[and] the fearof the LORD[are] riches,and honour,and life.
5Thorns[and] snares[are] in the wayof the froward:he that doth keephis soulshall be farfrom them.
6Train upa childin the wayhe should go:and when he is old,he will not departfrom it.
7The richrulethover the poor,and the borrower[is] servantto the lender.
8He that sowethiniquityshall reapvanity:and the rodof his angershall fail.
9He that hath a bountifuleyeshall be blessed;for he givethof his breadto the poor.
10Cast outthe scorner,and contentionshall go out;yea, strifeand reproachshall cease.
11He that lovethpurenessof heart,[for] the graceof his lipsthe king[shall be] his friend.
12The eyesof the LORDpreserveknowledge,and he overthroweththe wordsof the transgressor.
13The slothful[man] saith,[There is] a lionwithout,I shall be slaininthe streets.
14The mouthof strange women[is] a deeppit:he that is abhorredof the LORDshall falltherein.
15Foolishness[is] boundin the heartof a child;[but] the rodof correctionshall drive it farfrom him.
16He that oppresseththe poorto increasehis [riches, and] he that givethto the rich,[shall] surely [come] to want.
17Bow downthine ear,and hearthe wordsof the wise,and applythine heartunto my knowledge.
18For [it is] a pleasant thingif thou keepthem withinthee; they shall withalbe fittedin thy lips.
19That thy trustmay be in the LORD,I have made knownto thee this day,even to thee.
20Have not I writtento theeexcellent thingsin counselsand knowledge,
21That I might make thee knowthe certaintyof the wordsof truth;that thou mightest answerthe wordsof truthto them that sendunto thee?
22Robnot the poor,because he [is] poor:neither oppressthe afflictedin the gate:
23For the LORDwill pleadtheir cause,and spoilthe soulof those that spoiledthem.
24Make no friendshipwith an angryman;and with a furiousmanthou shalt not go:
25Lest thou learnhis ways,and geta snareto thy soul.
26Be not thou [one] of them that strikehands,[or] of them that are suretiesfor debts.
27If thou hast nothing to pay,why should he take awaythy bedfrom under thee?
28Removenot the ancientlandmark,which thy fathershave set.
29Seestthou a mandiligentin his business?he shall standbeforekings;he shall not standbeforemean[men].
