A Wise Son Heeds his Father's Instruction
1A wiseson[heareth] his father'sinstruction:but a scornerhearethnot rebuke.
2A manshall eatgoodby the fruitof [his] mouth:but the soulof the transgressors[shall eat] violence.
3He that keepethhis mouthkeepethhis life:[but] he that openeth widehis lipsshall have destruction.
4The soulof the sluggarddesireth,and [hath] nothing: but the soulof the diligentshall be made fat.
5A righteous[man] hatethlying:but a wicked[man] is loathsome,and cometh to shame.
6Righteousnesskeepeth[him that is] uprightin the way:but wickednessoverthroweththe sinner.
7There isthat maketh himself rich,yet [hath] nothing: [there is] that maketh himself poor,yet[hath] greatriches.
8The ransomof a man'slife[are] his riches:but the poorhearethnot rebuke.
9The lightof the righteousrejoiceth:but the lampof the wickedshall be put out.
10Only by pridecomethcontention:but with the well advised[is] wisdom.
11Wealth[gotten] by vanityshall be diminished:but he that gatherethby labourshall increase.
12Hopedeferredmaketh the heartsick:but [when] the desirecometh,[it is] a treeof life.
13Whoso despiseththe wordshall be destroyed:but he that feareththe commandmentshall be rewarded.
14The lawof the wise[is] a fountainof life,to departfrom the snaresof death.
15Goodunderstandinggivethfavour:but the wayof transgressors[is] hard.
16Every prudent[man] dealethwith knowledge:but a foollayeth open[his] folly.
17A wickedmessengerfallethinto mischief:but a faithfulambassador[is] health.
18Povertyand shame[shall be to] him that refusethinstruction:but he that regardethreproofshall be honoured.
19The desireaccomplishedis sweetto the soul:but [it is] abominationto foolsto departfrom evil.
20He that walkethwith wise[men] shall be wise:but a companionof foolsshall be destroyed.
21Evilpursuethsinners:but to the righteousgoodshall be repayed.
22A good[man] leaveth an inheritanceto his children'schildren:and the wealthof the sinner[is] laid upfor the just.
23Muchfood[is in] the tillageof the poor:but there is[that is] destroyedfor wantof judgment.
24He that sparethhis rodhatethhis son:but he that lovethhim chastenethhim betimes.
25The righteouseatethto the satisfyingof his soul:but the bellyof the wickedshall want.
