Duties of the Kohathites
(Numbers 3:27-32;Numbers 4:34-37;1 Chronicles 23:12-20)
1And the LORDspakeunto Mosesand unto Aaron,saying,2Takethe sumof the sonsof Kohathfrom amongthe sonsof Levi,after their families,by the houseof their fathers,3From thirtyyearsoldand upwardeven until fiftyyearsold,all that enterinto the host,to dothe workin the tabernacleof the congregation.4This [shall be] the serviceof the sonsof Kohathin the tabernacleof the congregation,[about] the mostholy things:
5And when the campsetteth forward,Aaronshall come,and his sons,and they shall take downthe coveringvail,and coverthe arkof testimonywith it:6And shall putthereon the coveringof badgers'skins,and shall spreadover[it] a clothwhollyof blue,and shall putin the stavesthereof.7And upon the tableof shewbreadthey shall spreada clothof blue,and putthereon the dishes,and the spoons,and the bowls,and coversto cover withal:and the continualbreadshall be thereon:8And they shall spreadupon them a clothof scarlet,and coverthe same with a coveringof badgers'skins,and shall putin the stavesthereof.9And they shall takea clothof blue,and coverthe candlestickof the light,and his lamps,and his tongs,and his snuffdishes,and all the oilvesselsthereof, wherewith they ministerunto it:10And they shall putit and all the vesselsthereof within a coveringof badgers'skins,and shall put[it] upon a bar.11And upon the goldenaltarthey shall spreada clothof blue,and coverit with a coveringof badgers'skins,and shall putto the stavesthereof:12And they shall takeall the instrumentsof ministry,wherewith they ministerin the sanctuary,and put[them] in a clothof blue,and coverthem with a coveringof badgers'skins,and shall put[them] on a bar:13And they shall take away the ashesfrom the altar,and spreada purplecloththereon:14And they shall putupon it all the vesselsthereof, wherewith they ministerabout it, [even] the censers,the fleshhooks,and the shovels,and the basons,all the vesselsof the altar;and they shall spreadupon it a coveringof badgers'skins,and putto the stavesof it.15And when Aaronand his sonshave made an endof coveringthe sanctuary,and all the vesselsof the sanctuary,as the campis to set forward;afterthat, the sonsof Kohathshall cometo bear[it]: but they shall not touch[any] holy thing,lest they die.These [things are] the burdenof the sonsof Kohathin the tabernacleof the congregation.
16And to the officeof Eleazarthe sonof Aaronthe priest[pertaineth] the oilfor the light,and the sweetincense,and the dailymeat offering,and the anointingoil,[and] the oversightof all the tabernacle,and of all that therein [is], in the sanctuary,and in the vesselsthereof.
17And the LORDspakeunto Mosesand unto Aaron,saying,18Cut ye not offthe tribeof the familiesof the Kohathitesfrom amongthe Levites:19But thus dounto them, that they may live,and not die,when they approachunto the mostholy things:Aaronand his sonsshall go in,and appointthem everyoneto his serviceand to his burden:20But they shall not go into seewhen the holy thingsare covered,lest they die.
Duties of the Gershonites
(Numbers 3:21-26;Numbers 4:38-41;1 Chronicles 23:7-11)
21And the LORDspakeunto Moses,saying,22Takealso the sumof the sonsof Gershon,throughout the housesof their fathers,by their families;23From thirtyyearsoldand upwarduntil fiftyyearsoldshalt thou numberthem; all that enter into performthe service,to dothe workin the tabernacleof the congregation.24This [is] the serviceof the familiesof the Gershonites,to serve,and for burdens:25And they shall bearthe curtainsof the tabernacle,and the tabernacleof the congregation,his covering,and the coveringof the badgers'skins that [is] aboveupon it, and the hangingfor the doorof the tabernacleof the congregation,26And the hangingsof the court,and the hangingfor the doorof the gateof the court,which [is] by the tabernacleand by the altarround about,and their cords,and all the instrumentsof their service,and all that is madefor them: so shall they serve.27At the appointmentof Aaronand his sonsshall be all the serviceof the sonsof the Gershonites,in all their burdens,and in all their service:and ye shall appointunto them in chargeall their burdens.28This [is] the serviceof the familiesof the sonsof Gershonin the tabernacleof the congregation:and their charge[shall be] under the handof Ithamarthe sonof Aaronthe priest.
Duties of the Merarites
(Numbers 3:33-37;Numbers 4:42-49;1 Chronicles 23:21-23)
29As for the sonsof Merari,thou shalt numberthem after their families,by the houseof their fathers;30From thirtyyearsoldand upwardeven unto fiftyyearsoldshalt thou numberthem, every one that enterethinto the service,to dothe workof the tabernacleof the congregation.31And this [is] the chargeof their burden,according to all their servicein the tabernacleof the congregation;the boardsof the tabernacle,and the barsthereof, and the pillarsthereof, and socketsthereof,32And the pillarsof the courtround about,and their sockets,and their pins,and their cords,with all their instruments,and with all their service:and by nameye shall reckonthe instrumentsof the chargeof their burden.33This [is] the serviceof the familiesof the sonsof Merari,according to all their service,in the tabernacleof the congregation,under the handof Ithamarthe sonof Aaronthe priest.
The Number of the Kohathites

34And Mosesand Aaronand the chiefof the congregationnumberedthe sonsof the Kohathitesafter their families,and after the houseof their fathers,35From thirtyyearsoldand upwardeven unto fiftyyearsold,every one that enterethinto the service,for the workin the tabernacleof the congregation:36And those that were numberedof them by their familieswere two thousandsevenhundredand fifty.37These [were] they that were numberedof the familiesof the Kohathites,all that might do servicein the tabernacleof the congregation,which Mosesand Aarondid numberaccording to the commandmentof the LORDby the handof Moses.
The Number of the Gershonites
(Numbers 3:21-26;Numbers 4:21-28;1 Chronicles 23:7-11)
38And those that were numberedof the sonsof Gershon,throughout their families,and by the houseof their fathers,39From thirtyyearsoldand upwardeven unto fiftyyearsold,every one that enterethinto the service,for the workin the tabernacleof the congregation,40Even those that were numberedof them, throughout their families,by the houseof their fathers,were two thousandand sixhundredand thirty.41These [are] they that were numberedof the familiesof the sonsof Gershon,of all that might do servicein the tabernacleof the congregation,whom Mosesand Aarondid numberaccording to the commandmentof the LORD.
The Number of the Merarites

42And those that were numberedof the familiesof the sonsof Merari,throughout their families,by the houseof their fathers,43From thirtyyearsoldand upwardeven unto fiftyyearsold,every one that enterethinto the service,for the workin the tabernacleof the congregation,44Even those that were numberedof them after their families,were threethousandand two hundred.45These [be] those that were numberedof the familiesof the sonsof Merari,whom Mosesand Aaronnumberedaccording to the wordof the LORDby the handof Moses.
46All those that were numberedof the Levites,whom Mosesand Aaronand the chiefof Israelnumbered,after their families,and after the houseof their fathers,47From thirtyyearsoldand upwardeven unto fiftyyearsold,every one that cameto dothe service of the ministry,and the serviceof the burdenin the tabernacleof the congregation,48Even those that were numberedof them, were eightthousandand fivehundredand fourscore.49According to the commandmentof the LORDthey were numberedby the handof Moses,everyoneaccording to his service,and according to his burden:thus were they numberedof him, as the LORDcommandedMoses.
