KJV + Strong's Vengeance on Midian 1And the LORDspakeunto Moses,saying,2Avengethe childrenof Israelof the Midianites:afterwardshalt thou be gatheredunto thy people.3And Mosesspakeunto the people,saying,Armsomeof yourselves unto the war,and let them go against the Midianites,and avengethe LORDof Midian.4Of every tribea thousand,throughout all the tribesof Israel,shall ye sendto the war.5So there were deliveredout of the thousandsof Israel,a thousandof [every] tribe,twelvethousandarmedfor war.6And Mosessentthem to the war,a thousandof [every] tribe,them and Phinehasthe sonof Eleazarthe priest,to the war,with the holyinstruments,and the trumpetsto blowin his hand.7And they warredagainst the Midianites,as the LORDcommandedMoses;and they slewall the males.8And they slewthe kingsof Midian,besidethe rest of them that were slain;[namely], Evi,and Rekem,and Zur,and Hur,and Reba,fivekingsof Midian:Balaamalso the sonof Beorthey slewwith the sword.9And the childrenof Israeltook [all] the womenof Midiancaptives,and their little ones,and took the spoilof all their cattle,and all their flocks,and all their goods.10And they burntall their citieswherein they dwelt,and all their goodly castles,with fire.11And they tookall the spoil,and all the prey,[both] of menand of beasts.12And they broughtthe captives,and the prey,and the spoil,unto Moses,and Eleazarthe priest,and unto the congregationof the childrenof Israel,unto the campat the plainsof Moab,which [are] by Jordan[near] Jericho. 13And Moses,and Eleazarthe priest,and all the princesof the congregation,went forthto meetthem withoutthe camp.14And Moseswas wrothwith the officersof the host,[with] the captainsover thousands,and captainsover hundreds,which camefromthe battle.15And Mosessaidunto them, Have ye savedall the womenalive?16Behold, thesecausedthe childrenof Israel,through the counselof Balaam,to committrespassagainst the LORDin the matterof Peor,and there was a plagueamong the congregationof the LORD.17Now therefore killevery maleamong the little ones,and killevery womanthat hath knownmanby lyingwith him.18But all the womenchildren,that have not knowna manby lyingwith him, keep alivefor yourselves.19And do ye abidewithoutthe campsevendays:whosoever hath killedany person,and whosoever hath touchedany slain,purify[both] yourselves and your captiveson the thirdday,and on the seventhday.20And purifyall [your] raiment,and all that is madeof skins,and all workof goats'[hair], and all things madeof wood. 21And Eleazarthe priestsaidunto the menof warwhich wentto the battle,This [is] the ordinanceof the lawwhich the LORDcommandedMoses;22Only the gold,and the silver,the brass,the iron,the tin,and the lead,23Every thingthat may abidethe fire,ye shall make [it] go throughthe fire,and it shall be clean:nevertheless it shall be purifiedwith the waterof separation:and all that abidethnot the fireye shall make go throughthe water.24And ye shall washyour clotheson the seventhday,and ye shall be clean,and afterwardye shall comeinto the camp. Division of the Spoils 25And the LORDspakeunto Moses,saying,26Takethe sumof the preythat was taken,[both] of manand of beast,thou, and Eleazarthe priest,and the chieffathersof the congregation:27And dividethe preyinto two parts;between them that tookthe warupon them, who went outto battle,and between all the congregation:28And levya tributeunto the LORDof the menof warwhich went outto battle:onesoulof fivehundred,[both] of the persons,and of the beeves,and of the asses,and of the sheep:29Take[it] of their half,and giveit unto Eleazarthe priest,[for] an heave offeringof the LORD.30And of the childrenof Israel'shalf,thou shalt takeoneportionof fifty,of the persons,of the beeves,of the asses,and of the flocks,of all manner of beasts,and givethem unto the Levites,which keepthe chargeof the tabernacleof the LORD.31And Mosesand Eleazarthe priestdidas the LORDcommandedMoses. 32And the booty,[being] the restof the preywhich the men ofwarhad caught,was sixhundredthousandand seventythousandand fivethousandsheep,33And threescore and twelvethousandbeeves,34And threescoreand onethousandasses,35And thirtyand twothousandpersonsin all,of womenthat had not knownmanby lyingwith him. 36And the half,[which was] the portionof them that went outto war,was in numberthreehundredthousandand sevenand thirtythousandand fivehundredsheep:37And the LORD'Stributeof the sheepwas sixhundredand threescore and fifteen.38And the beeves[were] thirtyand sixthousand;of which the LORD'Stribute[was] threescore and twelve.39And the asses[were] thirtythousandand fivehundred;of which the LORD'Stribute[was] threescoreand one.40And the persons[were] sixteenthousand;of which the LORD'Stribute[was] thirtyand twopersons.41And Mosesgavethe tribute,[which was] the LORD'Sheave offering,unto Eleazarthe priest,as the LORDcommandedMoses. 42And of the childrenof Israel'shalf,which Mosesdividedfrom the menthat warred,43(Now the half[that pertained unto] the congregationwas threehundredthousandand thirtythousand[and] seventhousandand fivehundredsheep,44And thirtyand sixthousandbeeves,45And thirtythousandassesand fivehundred,46And sixteenthousandpersons;)47Even of the childrenof Israel'shalf,Mosestookoneportionof fifty,[both] of manand of beast,and gavethem unto the Levites,which keptthe chargeof the tabernacleof the LORD;as the LORDcommandedMoses. The Voluntary Offering 48And the officerswhich [were] over thousandsof the host,the captainsof thousands,and captainsof hundreds,came nearunto Moses:49And they saidunto Moses,Thy servantshave takenthe sumof the menof warwhich [are] under our charge,and there lackethnot one manof us.50We have therefore broughtan oblationfor the LORD,what every manhath gotten,of jewelsof gold,chains,and bracelets,rings,earrings,and tablets,to make an atonementfor our soulsbeforethe LORD.51And Mosesand Eleazarthe priesttookthe goldof them, [even] all wroughtjewels.52And all the goldof the offeringthat they offered upto the LORD,of the captainsof thousands,and of the captainsof hundreds,was sixteenthousandsevenhundredand fiftyshekels.53([For] the menof warhad taken spoil,every manfor himself.)54And Mosesand Eleazarthe priesttookthe goldof the captainsof thousandsand of hundreds,and broughtit into the tabernacleof the congregation,[for] a memorialfor the childrenof Israelbeforethe LORD. |
