Laws Concerning Vows
(Matthew 5:33-37)
1And Mosesspakeunto the headsof the tribesconcerning the childrenof Israel,saying,This [is] the thingwhich the LORDhath commanded.2If a manvowa vowunto the LORD,or swearan oathto bindhis soulwith a bond;he shall not breakhis word,he shall doaccording to all that proceedethout of his mouth.
3If a womanalso vowa vowunto the LORD,and bindherself by a bond,[being] in her father'shousein her youth;4And her fatherhearher vow,and her bondwherewith she hath boundher soul,and her fathershall hold his peaceat her: then all her vowsshall stand,and every bondwherewith she hath boundher soulshall stand.5But if her fatherdisallowher in the daythat he heareth;not any of her vows,or of her bondswherewith she hath boundher soul,shall stand:and the LORDshall forgiveher, because her fatherdisallowedher.
6And if she had at all an husband,when she vowed,or utteredought out of her lips,wherewith she boundher soul;7And her husbandheard[it,] and held his peaceat her in the daythat he heard[it]: then her vowsshall stand,and her bondswherewith she boundher soulshall stand.8But if her husbanddisallowedher on the daythat he heard[it]; then he shall make her vow which she vowed,and that which she utteredwith her lips,wherewith she boundher soul,of none effect:and the LORDshall forgiveher.
9But every vowof a widow,and of her that is divorced,wherewith they have boundtheir souls,shall standagainst her.10And if she vowedin her husband'shouse,or boundher soulby a bondwith an oath;11And her husbandheard[it], and held his peaceat her, [and] disallowedher not: then all her vowsshall stand,and every bondwherewith she boundher soulshall stand.12But if her husbandhath utterlymade them voidon the dayhe heard[them; then] whatsoever proceededout of her lipsconcerning her vows,or concerning the bondof her soul,shall not stand:her husbandhath made them void;and the LORDshall forgiveher.
13Every vow,and every bindingoathto afflictthe soul,her husbandmay establishit, or her husbandmay make it void.14But if her husbandaltogetherhold his peaceat her from dayto day;then he establishethall her vows,or all her bonds,which [are] upon her: he confirmeththem, because he held his peaceat her in the daythat he heard[them].15But if he shall any waysmake them voidafterthat he hath heard[them]; then he shall bearher iniquity.
16These [are] the statutes,which the LORDcommandedMoses,between a manand his wife,between the fatherand his daughter,[being yet] in her youthin her father'shouse.
