(Deuteronomy 1:26-33) 1And all the congregationlifted uptheir voice,and cried;and the peopleweptthat night.2And all the childrenof Israelmurmuredagainst Mosesand against Aaron:and the whole congregationsaidunto them, Would Godthat we had diedin the landof Egypt!or would Godwe had diedin this wilderness!3And wherefore hath the LORDbroughtus unto this land,to fallby the sword,that our wivesand our childrenshould be a prey?were it not betterfor us to returninto Egypt?4And they saidoneto another,Let us makea captain,and let us returninto Egypt. 5Then Mosesand Aaronfellon their facesbeforeall the assemblyof the congregationof the childrenof Israel.6And Joshuathe sonof Nun,and Calebthe sonof Jephunneh,[which were] of them that searchedthe land,renttheir clothes:7And they spakeunto all the companyof the childrenof Israel,saying,The land,which we passedthrough to searchit, [is] an exceedinggoodland.8If the LORDdelightin us, then he will bringus into this land,and giveit us; a landwhich flowethwith milkand honey.9Only rebelnot ye against the LORD,neither fearye the peopleof the land;for they [are] breadfor us: their defenceis departedfrom them, and the LORD[is] with us: fearthem not.10But all the congregationbadestonethem with stones.And the gloryof the LORDappearedin the tabernacleof the congregationbefore all the childrenof Israel. 11And the LORDsaidunto Moses,How long will this peopleprovokeme? and how long will it be erethey believeme, for all the signswhich I have shewedamongthem?12I will smitethem with the pestilence,and disinheritthem, and will makeof thee a greaternationand mightierthan they. Moses Intercedes for the People 13And Mosessaidunto the LORD,Then the Egyptiansshall hear[it], (for thou broughtest upthis peoplein thy mightfrom amongthem;)14And they will tell[it] to the inhabitantsof this land:[for] they have heardthat thou LORD[art] amongthis people,that thou LORDart seenfaceto face,and [that] thy cloudstandethover them, and [that] thou goestbeforethem, by day timein a pillarof a cloud,and in a pillarof fireby night.15Now [if] thou shalt kill[all] this peopleas oneman,then the nationswhich have heardthe fameof thee will speak,saying,16Because the LORDwas notableto bringthis peopleinto the landwhich he swareunto them, therefore he hath slainthem in the wilderness.17And now, I beseech thee, let the powerof my Lordbe great,accordingas thou hast spoken,saying,18The LORD[is] longsuffering,and of greatmercy,forgivinginiquityand transgression,and by no meansclearing[the guilty], visitingthe iniquityof the fathersupon the childrenunto the thirdand fourth[generation].19Pardon,I beseech thee, the iniquityof this peopleaccording unto the greatnessof thy mercy,and as thou hast forgiventhis people,from Egypteven until now. (Deuteronomy 1:34-40) 20And the LORDsaid,I have pardonedaccording to thy word:21But [as] truly[as] I live,all the earthshall be filledwith the gloryof the LORD.22Because all those menwhich have seenmy glory,and my miracles,which I didin Egyptand in the wilderness,and have temptedme now these tentimes,and have not hearkenedto my voice;23Surely they shall notseethe landwhich I swareunto their fathers,neither shall any of them that provokedme seeit:24But my servantCaleb,becausehe had anotherspiritwith him, and hath followedme fully,him will I bringinto the landwhereinto he went;and his seedshall possessit.25(Now the Amalekitesand the Canaanitesdweltin the valley.) To morrowturnyou, and getyou into the wildernessby the wayof the Redsea. 26And the LORDspakeunto Mosesand unto Aaron,saying,27How long [shall I bear with] this evilcongregation,which murmuragainst me? I have heardthe murmuringsof the childrenof Israel,which they murmuragainst me.28Sayunto them, [As truly as]I live,saiththe LORD,as ye have spokenin mine ears,so will I doto you:29Your carcasesshall fallin this wilderness;and all that were numberedof you, according to your whole number,from twentyyearsoldand upward,which have murmuredagainst me,30Doubtless ye shall notcomeinto the land,[concerning] which I swareto make you dwelltherein, save Calebthe sonof Jephunneh,and Joshuathe sonof Nun.31But your little ones,which ye saidshould be a prey,them will I bring in,and they shall knowthe landwhich ye have despised.32But [as for] you, your carcases,they shall fallin this wilderness.33And your childrenshall wanderin the wildernessfortyyears,and bearyour whoredoms,until your carcasesbe wastedin the wilderness.34After the numberof the daysin which ye searchedthe land,[even] fortydays,each dayfor a year,shall ye bearyour iniquities,[even] fortyyears,and ye shall knowmy breach of promise.35I the LORDhave said,I will surelydoitunto all this evilcongregation,that are gathered togetheragainst me: in this wildernessthey shall be consumed,and there they shall die. The Plague on the Ten Spies 36And the men,which Mosessentto searchthe land,who returned,and made all the congregationto murmur{08675;03885:08735} against him, by bringing upa slanderupon the land,37Even thosementhat did bring upthe evilreportupon the land,diedby the plaguebeforethe LORD.38But Joshuathe sonof Nun,and Calebthe sonof Jephunneh,[which were] of the menthat wentto searchthe land,lived[still]. 39And Mosestoldthese sayingsunto all the childrenof Israel:and the peoplemournedgreatly. Defeat by Amalekites and Canaanites 40And they rose up earlyin the morning,and gat them upinto the topof the mountain,saying,Lo,we [be here], and will go upunto the placewhich the LORDhath promised:for we have sinned.41And Mosessaid,Wherefore now do ye transgressthe commandmentof the LORD?but it shall not prosper.42Go not up,for the LORD[is] not amongyou; that ye be not smittenbeforeyour enemies.43For the Amalekitesand the Canaanites[are] there beforeyou, and ye shall fallby the sword:because ye are turnedawayfrom the LORD,therefore the LORDwill not be with you.44But they presumedto go upunto the hilltop:nevertheless the arkof the covenantof the LORD,and Moses,departednot outof the camp.45Then the Amalekitescame down,and the Canaaniteswhich dweltin that hill,and smotethem, and discomfitedthem, [even] unto Hormah. |
