1Hearye now what the LORDsaith;Arise,contendthou before the mountains,and let the hillshearthy voice.
2Hearye, O mountains,the LORD'Scontroversy,and ye strongfoundationsof the earth:for the LORDhath a controversywith his people,and he will pleadwith Israel.
3O my people,what have I doneunto thee? and wherein have I weariedthee? testifyagainst me.
4For I brought thee upout of the landof Egypt,and redeemedthee out of the houseof servants;and I sentbeforethee Moses,Aaron,and Miriam.
5O my people,remembernow what Balakkingof Moabconsulted,and what Balaamthe sonof Beoransweredhim from Shittimunto Gilgal;that ye may knowthe righteousnessof the LORD.
6Wherewith shall I come beforethe LORD,[and] bowmyself before the highGod?shall I come beforehim with burnt offerings,with calvesof a yearold?
7Will the LORDbe pleasedwith thousandsof rams,[or] with ten thousandsof riversof oil?shall I givemy firstborn[for] my transgression,the fruitof my body[for] the sinof my soul?
8He hath shewedthee, O man,what [is] good;and what doth the LORDrequireof thee, but to dojustly,and to lovemercy,and to walkhumblywith thy God?
The Punishment of Israel
9The LORD'Svoicecriethunto the city,and [the man of] wisdomshall seethy name:hearye the rod,and who hath appointedit.
10Are thereyet the treasuresof wickednessin the houseof the wicked,and the scantmeasure[that is] abominable?
11Shall I count [them] purewith the wickedbalances,and with the bagof deceitfulweights?
12For the rich menthereof are fullof violence,and the inhabitantsthereof have spokenlies,and their tongue[is] deceitfulin their mouth.
13Therefore also will I make [thee] sickin smitingthee, in making [thee] desolatebecause of thy sins.
14Thou shalt eat,but not be satisfied;and thy casting down[shall be] in the midstof thee; and thou shalt take hold,but shalt not deliver;and [that] which thou deliverestwill I give upto the sword.
15Thou shalt sow,but thou shalt not reap;thou shalt treadthe olives,but thou shalt not anointthee with oil;and sweet wine,but shalt not drinkwine.
16For the statutesof Omriare kept,and all the worksof the houseof Ahab,and ye walkin their counsels;that I should makethee a desolation,and the inhabitantsthereof an hissing:therefore ye shall bearthe reproachof my people.
