Jesus Delivered to Pilate

(Mark 15:1-5)

1Whenthe morningwas come,allthe chief priestsandeldersof the peopletookcounselagainstJesustoputhimto death:2Andwhen they had boundhim,they led [him] away,anddeliveredhimto PontiusPilatethe governor.

Judas Hangs Himself

(Zechariah 11:10-17;Matthew 26:14-16;Mark 14:10-11)

3ThenJudas,whichhad betrayedhim,when he sawthathe was condemned,repented himself,and brought againthe thirtypieces of silverto the chief priestsandelders,4Saying,I have sinnedin that I have betrayedthe innocentblood.Andthey said,What[is that] tous?seethou[to that].5Andhe cast downthe pieces of silverinthe temple,and departed,andwentand hanged himself.6Andthe chief prieststookthe silver pieces,and said,It isnotlawfulfor to putthemintothe treasury,becauseit isthe priceof blood.7Andthey tookcounsel,and boughtwiththemthe potter'sfield,toburystrangersin.8Whereforethatfieldwas called,The fieldof blood,untothis day.9Thenwas fulfilledthat whichwas spokenbyJeremythe prophet,saying,Andthey tookthe thirtypieces of silver,the priceof him that was valued,whomthey ofthe childrenof Israeldid value;10Andgavethemforthe potter'sfield,asthe Lordappointedme.

Jesus Before Pilate

(Luke 23:1-6;John 18:28-40)

11AndJesusstoodbeforethe governor:andthe governoraskedhim,saying,Artthouthe Kingof the Jews?AndJesussaidunto him,Thousayest.12Andwhenhewas accusedofthe chief priestsandelders,he answerednothing.13ThensaidPilateunto him,Hearest thounothow many thingsthey witness againstthee?14Andhe answeredhimtoneveraword;insomuchthat the governormarvelledgreatly.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas

(Mark 15:6-11;Luke 23:13-25)

15Nowat[that] feastthe governorwas wontto releaseunto the peopleaprisoner,whomthey would.16Andthey hadthena notableprisoner,calledBarabbas.17Thereforewhen theywere gathered together,Pilatesaidunto them,Whomwill yethat I releaseunto you?Barabbas,orJesuswhichis calledChrist?18Forhe knewthatforenvythey had deliveredhim.

19Whenhewas set downonthe judgment seat,hiswifesentuntohim,saying,Have thounothingto do with thatjust man:forI have sufferedmany thingsthis dayina dreambecauseof him.20Butthe chief priestsandelderspersuadedthe multitudethatthey should askBarabbas,anddestroyJesus.21The governoransweredandsaidunto them,Whetherofthe twainwill yethat I releaseunto you?They said,Barabbas.22Pilatesaithunto them,Whatshall I dothenwith Jesuswhichis calledChrist?[They] allsayunto him,Let him be crucified.23Andthe governorsaid,Why,whatevilhath he done?Butthey cried outthe more,saying,Let him be crucified.

Pilate Washes his Hands

(Mark 15:12-15)

24WhenPilatesawthathe could prevailnothing,but[that] rathera tumultwas made,he tookwater,and washed[his] handsbeforethe multitude,saying,I aminnocentofthe bloodof thisjust person:seeye[to it].25Thenansweredallthe people,and said,Hisblood[be] onus,andonourchildren.26Thenreleased heBarabbasunto them:andwhen he had scourgedJesus,he delivered[him] tobe crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

(Isaiah 50:4-11;Mark 15:16-20;Luke 22:63-65;John 19:1-15)

27Thenthe soldiersof the governortookJesusintothe common hall,and gathereduntohimthe wholeband[of soldiers].28Andthey strippedhim,and put onhima scarletrobe.29Andwhen they had platteda crownofthorns,they put[it] uponhishead,anda reedinhisright hand:andthey bowed the kneebeforehim,and mockedhim,saying,Hail,Kingof the Jews!30Andthey spituponhim,and tookthe reed,andsmotehimonthe head.31Andafterthat they had mockedhim,they tookthe robeofffrom him,andputhis ownraimentonhim,andledhimawaytocrucify[him].

The Crucifixion

32Andas they came out,they founda manof Cyrene,Simonby name:himthey compelledtobearhiscross.

33Andwhen they were comeuntoa placecalledGolgotha,thatisto say,a placeof a skull,34They gavehimvinegarto drinkmingledwithgall:andwhen he had tasted[thereof], he wouldnotdrink.

35Andthey crucifiedhim,and partedhisgarments,castinglots:thatit might be fulfilledwhichwas spokenbythe prophet,They partedmygarmentsamong them,anduponmyvesturedid they castlots.36Andsitting downthey watchedhimthere;37Andset upoverhisheadhisaccusationwritten,THISISJESUSTHE KINGOF THE JEWS.

38Thenwere there twothievescrucifiedwithhim,oneonthe right hand,andanotheronthe left.39Andthey that passed byreviledhim,waggingtheirheads,40Andsaying,Thou that destroyestthe temple,andbuildest[it] inthreedays,savethyself.Ifthou bethe Sonof God,come downfromthe cross.41<1161> Likewisealsothe chief priestsmocking[him], withthe scribesandelders,said,42He savedothers;himselfhe cannotsave.Ifhe bethe Kingof Israel,let himnowcome downfromthe cross,andwe will believehim.43He trustedinGod;let him deliverhimnow,ifhe will havehim:forhe said,I amthe Sonof God.44<1161> The thievesalso,whichwere crucifiedwith him,castthe samein histeeth.

The Death of Jesus

45Nowfromthe sixthhourthere wasdarknessoverallthe landuntothe ninthhour.46Andaboutthe ninthhourJesuscriedwith a loudvoice,saying,Eli,Eli,lamasabachthani?thatis to say, MyGod,myGod,whyhast thou forsakenme?47<1161> Some of themthat stoodthere,when they heard[that], said,This[man] calleth forElias.48Andstraightwayoneofthemran,andtooka spunge,andfilled[it] with vinegar,andput [it] ona reed,and gavehimto drink.49Therestsaid,Let be,let us seewhetherEliaswill cometo savehim.50<1161> Jesus,when he had criedagainwith a loudvoice,yielded upthe ghost.51And,behold,the veilof the templewas rentintwainfromthe toptothe bottom;andthe earthdid quake,andthe rocksrent;52Andthe graveswere opened;andmanybodiesof the saintswhichsleptarose,53Andcameout ofthe gravesafterhisresurrection,and wentintothe holycity,andappearedunto many.54Nowwhen the centurion,andthey that were withhim,watchingJesus,sawthe earthquake,andthose things that were done,they fearedgreatly,saying,Trulythiswasthe Sonof God.

55Andmanywomenweretherebeholdingafar off,whichfollowedJesusfromGalilee,ministeringunto him:56AmongwhichwasMaryMagdalene,andMarythe motherof JamesandJoses,andthe motherof Zebedee'schildren.

The Burial of Jesus

(Isaiah 53:9-12;Mark 15:42-47;Luke 23:50-56;John 19:38-42)

57Whenthe evenwas come,there camea richmanofArimathaea,namedJoseph,whoalsohimselfwasJesus'disciple:58Hewentto Pilate,and beggedthe bodyof Jesus.ThenPilatecommandedthe bodyto be delivered.59Andwhen Josephhad takenthe body,he wrappeditin a cleanlinen cloth,60Andlaiditinhis ownnewtomb,whichhe had hewn outinthe rock:andhe rolleda greatstoneto the doorof the sepulchre,and departed.61AndtherewasMaryMagdalene,andthe otherMary,sittingover againstthe sepulchre.

The Guard at the Tomb

62Nowthe next day,thatfollowedthe day of the preparation,the chief priestsandPhariseescame togetheruntoPilate,63Saying,Sir,we rememberthatthatdeceiversaid,while he was yetalive,AfterthreedaysI will rise again.64Commandthereforethat the sepulchrebe made sureuntilthe thirdday,lesthisdisciplescomeby night,and stealhimaway,andsayunto the people,He is risenfromthe dead:sothe lasterrorshall beworse thanthe first.65<1161> Pilatesaidunto them,Ye havea watch:go your way,make [it] as sureasye can.66Sothey went,and madethe sepulchresure,sealingthe stone,and settinga watch.
