Jesus Calls His First Disciples

27Andafterthese thingshe went forth,andsawa publican,namedLevi,sittingatthe receipt of custom:andhe saidunto him,Followme.28Andhe leftall,rose up,and followedhim.

29AndLevimadehima greatfeastinhis ownhouse:andthere wasa greatcompanyof publicansandof othersthatsat downwiththem.30ButtheirscribesandPhariseesmurmuredagainsthisdisciples,saying,Whydo ye eatanddrinkwithpublicansandsinners?31AndJesusansweringsaiduntothem,They that are wholeneednota physician;butthey that aresick.32I camenotto callthe righteous,butsinnerstorepentance.

33Andthey saiduntohim,Whydothe disciplesof Johnfastoften,andmakeprayers,andlikewise[the disciples] of the Pharisees;butthineeatanddrink?34Andhe saiduntothem,Can yemakethe childrenof the bridechamberfast,whilethe bridegroomiswiththem?35Butthe dayswill come,whenthe bridegroomshall be taken awayfromthem,and thenshall they fastinthosedays.

36Andhe spakealsoa parableuntothem;No manputtetha pieceof a newgarmentuponan old;if otherwise, thenboththe newmaketh a rent,andthe piecethat was [taken] out ofthe newagreethnotwith the old.37Andno manputtethnewwineintooldbottles;elsethe newwinewill burstthe bottles,andbe spilled,andthe bottlesshall perish.38Butnewwinemust be putintonewbottles;andbothare preserved.39No manalsohaving drunkold[wine] straightwaydesirethnew:forhe saith,The oldisbetter.
