KJV + Strong's Nations Left to Test Israel 1Now these [are] the nationswhich the LORDleft,to proveIsraelby them, [even] as many [of Israel] as had not knownall the warsof Canaan;2Only thatthe generationsof the childrenof Israelmight know,to teachthem war,at the least such as beforeknewnothing thereof;3[Namely], fivelordsof the Philistines,and all the Canaanites,and the Sidonians,and the Hivitesthat dweltin mountLebanon,from mountBaalhermonunto the entering inof Hamath.4And they were to proveIsraelby them, to knowwhether they would hearkenunto the commandmentsof the LORD,which he commandedtheir fathersby the handof Moses.5And the childrenof Israeldweltamongthe Canaanites,Hittites,and Amorites,and Perizzites,and Hivites,and Jebusites:6And they tooktheir daughtersto be their wives,and gavetheir daughtersto their sons,and servedtheir gods. Othniel 7And the childrenof Israeldidevilin the sightof the LORD,and forgatthe LORDtheir God,and servedBaalimand the groves.8Therefore the angerof the LORDwas hotagainst Israel,and he soldthem into the handof Chushanrishathaimkingof Mesopotamia:and the childrenof IsraelservedChushanrishathaimeightyears. 9And when the childrenof Israelcriedunto the LORD,the LORDraised upa delivererto the childrenof Israel,who deliveredthem, [even] Othnielthe sonof Kenaz,Caleb'syoungerbrother.10And the Spiritof the LORDcame upon him, and he judgedIsrael,and went outto war:and the LORDdeliveredChushanrishathaimkingof Mesopotamiainto his hand;and his handprevailedagainst Chushanrishathaim.11And the landhad restfortyyears.And Othnielthe sonof Kenazdied. Ehud Delivers the Israelites 12And the childrenof Israeldidevilagainin the sightof the LORD:and the LORDstrengthenedEglonthe kingof Moabagainst Israel,because they had doneevilin the sightof the LORD.13And he gatheredunto him the childrenof Ammonand Amalek,and wentand smoteIsrael,and possessedthe cityof palm trees.14So the childrenof IsraelservedEglonthe kingof Moabeighteenyears. 15But when the childrenof Israelcriedunto the LORD,the LORDraised them upa deliverer,Ehudthe sonof Gera,a Benjamite,a manlefthanded:and by himthe childrenof Israelsenta presentunto Eglonthe kingof Moab.16But Ehudmadehim a daggerwhich had twoedges,of a cubitlength;and he did girdit under his raimentupon his rightthigh.17And he broughtthe presentunto Eglonkingof Moab:and Eglon[was] a veryfatman.18And when he had made an endto offerthe present,he sent awaythe peoplethat barethe present.19But he himself turned againfrom the quarriesthat [were] by Gilgal,and said,I have a secreterrandunto thee, O king:who said,Keep silence.And all that stoodby him went outfrom him.20And Ehudcameunto him; and he was sittingin a summerparlour,which he had for himself alone. And Ehudsaid,I have a messagefrom Godunto thee. And he aroseout of [his] seat.21And Ehudput forthhis lefthand,and tookthe daggerfrom his rightthigh,and thrustit into his belly:22And the haftalso went inafterthe blade;and the fatcloseduponthe blade,so that he could not drawthe daggerout of his belly;and the dirtcame out.23Then Ehudwent forththrough the porch,and shutthe doorsof the parlourupon him, and lockedthem. 24When he was gone out,his servantscame;and when they sawthat, behold, the doorsof the parlour[were] locked,they said,Surely he coverethhis feetin his summerchamber.25And they tarriedtill they were ashamed:and, behold, he openednot the doorsof the parlour;therefore they tooka key,and opened[them]: and, behold, their lord[was] fallen downdeadon the earth. 26And Ehudescapedwhile they tarried,and passed beyondthe quarries,and escapedunto Seirath.27And it came to pass, when he was come,that he blewa trumpetin the mountainof Ephraim,and the childrenof Israelwent downwith him from the mount,and he beforethem.28And he saidunto them, Followafterme: for the LORDhath deliveredyour enemiesthe Moabitesinto your hand.And they went downafterhim, and tookthe fordsof Jordantoward Moab,and sufferednot a manto pass over.29And they slewof Moabat that timeabout tenthousandmen,all lusty,and all menof valour;and there escapednot a man.30So Moabwas subduedthat dayunder the handof Israel.And the landhad restfourscoreyears. Shamgar 31And afterhim was Shamgarthe sonof Anath,which slewof the Philistinessixhundredmenwith an oxgoad:and he also deliveredIsrael. |
