The Crossing of the Jordan
1And Joshuarose earlyin the morning;and they removedfrom Shittim,and cameto Jordan,he and all the childrenof Israel,and lodgedthere before they passed over.2And it came to pass afterthreedays,that the officerswentthroughthe host;3And they commandedthe people,saying,When ye seethe arkof the covenantof the LORDyour God,and the prieststhe Levitesbearingit, then ye shall removefrom your place,and goafterit.4Yet there shall be a spacebetween you and it, about two thousandcubitsby measure:come not nearunto it, that ye may knowthe wayby which ye must go:for ye have not passed[this] wayheretofore.
5And Joshuasaidunto the people,Sanctifyyourselves: for to morrowthe LORDwill dowondersamongyou.6And Joshuaspakeunto the priests,saying,Take upthe arkof the covenant,and pass overbeforethe people.And they took upthe arkof the covenant,and wentbeforethe people.
7And the LORDsaidunto Joshua,This daywill I beginto magnifythee in the sightof all Israel,that they may knowthat, as I was with Moses,[so] I will be with thee.8And thou shalt commandthe prieststhat bearthe arkof the covenant,saying,When ye are cometo the brinkof the waterof Jordan,ye shall stand stillin Jordan.9And Joshuasaidunto the childrenof Israel,Come hither,and hearthe wordsof the LORDyour God.10And Joshuasaid,Hereby ye shall knowthat the livingGod[is] amongyou, and [that] he will without faildrive outfrom beforeyou the Canaanites,and the Hittites,and the Hivites,and the Perizzites,and the Girgashites,and the Amorites,and the Jebusites.11Behold, the arkof the covenantof the Lordof all the earthpasseth overbeforeyou into Jordan.12Now therefore takeyou twelvemenout of the tribesof Israel,out of everytribea man.13And it shall come to pass, as soon as the solesof the feetof the prieststhat bearthe arkof the LORD,the Lordof all the earth,shall restin the watersof Jordan,[that] the watersof Jordanshall be cut off[from] the watersthat come downfrom above;and they shall standupon anheap.
14And it came to pass, when the peopleremovedfrom their tents,to pass overJordan,and the priestsbearingthe arkof the covenantbeforethe people;15And as they that barethe arkwere comeunto Jordan,and the feetof the prieststhat barethe arkwere dippedin the brimof the water,(for Jordanoverflowethall his banksall the timeof harvest,)16That the waterswhich came downfrom abovestood[and] rose upupon anheapveryfarfrom the cityAdam,that [is] besideZaretan:and those that came downtoward the seaof the plain,[even] the saltsea,failed,[and] were cut off:and the peoplepassed overright against Jericho.17And the prieststhat barethe arkof the covenantof the LORDstoodfirmon dry groundin the midstof Jordan,and all the Israelitespassed overon dry ground,until all the peoplewere passedcleanoverJordan.
