Job Loses his Health
1Again there was a daywhen the sonsof Godcameto presentthemselves before the LORD,and Satancamealso amongthem to presenthimself before the LORD.2And the LORDsaidunto Satan,From whencecomestthou? And Satanansweredthe LORD,and said,From going to and froin the earth,and from walking up and downin it.3And the LORDsaidunto Satan,Hast thouconsideredmy servantJob,that [there is] none like him in the earth,a perfectand an uprightman,one that fearethGod,and eschewethevil?and still he holdeth fasthis integrity,although thou movedstme against him, to destroyhim without cause.4And Satanansweredthe LORD,and said,Skinfor skin,yea, all that a manhath will he givefor his life.5Butput forththine handnow, and touchhis boneand his flesh,and he will cursethee to thy face.6And the LORDsaidunto Satan,Behold, he [is] in thine hand;but savehis life.
7So wentSatanforthfrom the presenceof the LORD,and smoteJobwith soreboilsfrom the soleof his footunto his crown.8And he tookhim a potsherdto scrapehimself withal; and he sat downamongthe ashes.
9Then saidhis wifeunto him, Dost thou still retainthine integrity?curseGod,and die.10But he saidunto her, Thou speakestas oneof the foolish womenspeaketh.What?shall we receivegoodat the hand of God,and shall we not receiveevil?In all this did not Jobsinwith his lips.
Job's Three Friends
11Now when Job'sthreefriendsheardof all this evilthat was comeupon him, they cameevery onefrom his own place;Eliphazthe Temanite,and Bildadthe Shuhite,and Zopharthe Naamathite:for they had made an appointmenttogetherto cometo mournwith him and to comforthim.12And when they lifted uptheir eyesafar off,and knewhim not, they lifted uptheir voice,and wept;and they rentevery onehis mantle,and sprinkleddustupon their headstoward heaven.13So they sat downwith him upon the groundsevendaysand sevennights,and none spakea wordunto him: for they sawthat [his] griefwas verygreat.
