KJV + Strong's Obedience of the Rechabites 1The wordwhich came unto Jeremiahfrom the LORDin the daysof Jehoiakimthe sonof Josiahkingof Judah,saying,2Gounto the houseof the Rechabites,and speakunto them, and bringthem into the houseof the LORD,into oneof the chambers,and give them wineto drink.3Then I tookJaazaniahthe sonof Jeremiah,the sonof Habaziniah,and his brethren,and all his sons,and the whole houseof the Rechabites;4And I broughtthem into the houseof the LORD,into the chamberof the sonsof Hanan,the sonof Igdaliah,a manof God,which [was] bythe chamberof the princes,which [was] abovethe chamberof Maaseiahthe sonof Shallum,the keeperof the door:5And I setbeforethe sonsof the houseof the Rechabitespotsfullof wine,and cups,and I saidunto them, Drinkye wine.6But they said,We will drinkno wine:for Jonadabthe sonof Rechabour fathercommandedus, saying,Ye shall drinkno wine,[neither ye], nor your sonsforever:7Neither shall ye buildhouse,nor sowseed,nor plantvineyard,nor have [any]: but all your daysye shall dwellin tents;that ye may livemanydaysinthe landwhere ye [be] strangers.8Thus have we obeyedthe voiceof Jonadabthe sonof Rechabour fatherin all that he hath chargedus, to drinkno wineall our days,we, our wives,our sons,nor our daughters;9Nor to buildhousesfor us to dwell in:neither have we vineyard,nor field,nor seed:10But we have dwelt intents,and have obeyed,and doneaccording to all that Jonadabour fathercommandedus.11But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzarkingof Babyloncame upinto the land,that we said,Come,and let us goto Jerusalemfor fearof the armyof the Chaldeans,and for fearof the armyof the Syrians:so we dwellat Jerusalem. Judah Rebuked 12Then came the wordof the LORDunto Jeremiah,saying,13Thus saiththe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel;Goand tellthe menof Judahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalem,Will ye not receiveinstructionto hearkento my words?saiththe LORD.14The wordsof Jonadabthe sonof Rechab,that he commandedhis sonsnot to drinkwine,are performed;for unto this daythey drinknone, but obeytheir father'scommandment:notwithstanding I have spokenunto you, rising earlyand speaking;but ye hearkenednot unto me.15I have sentalso unto you all my servantsthe prophets,rising up earlyand sending[them], saying,Returnye now every manfrom his evilway,and amendyour doings,and gonot afterothergodsto servethem, and ye shall dwell inthe landwhich I have givento you and to your fathers:but ye have not inclinedyour ear,nor hearkenedunto me.16Because the sonsof Jonadabthe sonof Rechabhave performedthe commandmentof their father,which he commandedthem; but this peoplehath not hearkenedunto me:17Therefore thus saiththe LORDGodof hosts,the Godof Israel;Behold, I will bringupon Judahand upon all the inhabitantsof Jerusalemall the evilthat I have pronouncedagainst them: because I have spokenunto them, but they have not heard;and I have calledunto them, but they have not answered. 18And Jeremiahsaidunto the houseof the Rechabites,Thus saiththe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel;Because ye have obeyedthe commandmentof Jonadabyour father,and keptall his precepts,and doneaccording unto all that he hath commandedyou:19Therefore thus saiththe LORDof hosts,the Godof Israel;Jonadabthe sonof Rechabshall not wanta manto standbeforeme for ever. |
