In those dayswas Hezekiahsickunto death. And Isaiahthe prophetthe sonof Amozcameunto him, and saidunto him, Thus saiththe LORD,Set thine housein order:for thou shalt die,and not live.2Then Hezekiahturnedhis facetoward the wall, and prayedunto the LORD,3And said,Remembernow, O LORD,I beseechthee, how I have walkedbeforethee in truthand with a perfectheart, and have done[that which is] goodin thy sight. And Hezekiahweptsore.
Then came the wordof the LORDto Isaiah,saying,5Go,and sayto Hezekiah,Thus saiththe LORD,the Godof Davidthy father,I have heardthy prayer,I have seenthy tears:behold, I will addunto thy daysfifteenyears.6And I will deliverthee and this cityout of the handof the kingof Assyria:and I will defendthis city.
And this [shall be] a signunto thee from the LORD,that the LORDwill dothis thingthat he hath spoken;8Behold, I will bring againthe shadowof the degrees, which is gone downin the sundialof Ahaz, tendegreesbackward. So the sunreturnedtendegrees,by which degreesit was gone down.
Hezekiah's Song of Thanksgiving
The writingof Hezekiahkingof Judah, when he had been sick, and was recoveredof his sickness:
I saidin the cutting offof my days,I shall goto the gatesof the grave:I am deprivedof the residueof my years.
I said,I shall not seethe LORD,[even] the LORD,in the landof the living:I shall beholdmanno more with the inhabitantsof the world.
Mine ageis departed, and is removedfrom me as a shepherd'stent:I have cut offlike a weavermy life:he will cut me offwith pining sickness:from day[even] to nightwilt thou make an endof me.
I reckonedtill morning,[that], as a lion,so will he breakall my bones:from day[even] to nightwilt thou make an endof me.
Like a crane[or] a swallow,so did I chatter:I did mournas a dove:mine eyesfail[with looking] upward:O LORD,I am oppressed;undertakefor me.
What shall I say?he hath both spokenunto me, and himself hath done[it]: I shall go softlyall my yearsin the bitternessof my soul.
O Lord,by these [things men] live, and in all these [things is] the lifeof my spirit:so wilt thou recoverme, and make me to live.
Behold, for peaceI had great bitterness:but thou hast in loveto my soul[delivered it] from the pitof corruption:for thou hast castall my sinsbehindthy back.
For the gravecannot praisethee, deathcan [not] celebratethee: they that go downinto the pitcannot hopefor thy truth.
The living, the living,he shall praisethee, as I [do] this day:the fatherto the childrenshall make knownthy truth.
The LORD[was ready] to saveme: therefore we will sing my songsto the stringed instrumentsall the daysof our lifein the houseof the LORD.
For Isaiahhad said,Let them takea lumpof figs, and lay [it] for a plaisterupon the boil, and he shall recover.22Hezekiahalso had said,What [is] the signthat I shall go upto the houseof the LORD?
