God's Restoration of Israel
1For the LORDwill have mercyon Jacob,and will yet chooseIsrael,and setthem in their own land:and the strangersshall be joinedwith them, and they shall cleaveto the houseof Jacob.2And the peopleshall takethem, and bringthem to their place:and the houseof Israelshall possessthem in the landof the LORDfor servantsand handmaids:and they shall take them captives,whose captivesthey were; and they shall ruleover their oppressors.
Triumphant Exultation over Babel
3And it shall come to pass in the daythat the LORDshall give thee restfrom thy sorrow,and from thy fear,and from the hardbondagewherein thou wast made to serve,
4That thou shalt take upthis proverbagainst the kingof Babylon,and say,How hath the oppressorceased!the golden cityceased!
5The LORDhath brokenthe staffof the wicked,[and] the sceptreof the rulers.
6He who smotethe peoplein wrathwith a continualstroke,he that ruledthe nationsin anger,is persecuted,[and] nonehindereth.
7The whole earthis at rest,[and] is quiet:they break forthinto singing.
8Yea, the fir treesrejoiceat thee, [and] the cedarsof Lebanon,[saying], Since thou art laid down,no felleris come upagainst us.
9Hellfrom beneath is movedfor thee to meet[thee] at thy coming:it stirreth upthe deadfor thee, [even] all the chief onesof the earth;it hath raised upfrom their thronesall the kingsof the nations.
10All they shall speakand sayunto thee, Art thou also become weakas we? art thou become likeunto us?
11Thy pompis brought downto the grave,[and] the noiseof thy viols:the wormis spreadunder thee, and the wormscoverthee.
12How art thou fallenfrom heaven,O Lucifer,sonof the morning![how] art thou cut downto the ground,which didst weakenthe nations!
13For thou hast saidin thine heart,I will ascendinto heaven,I will exaltmy throneabovethe starsof God:I will sitalso upon the mountof the congregation,in the sidesof the north:
14I will ascendabove the heightsof the clouds;I will be likethe most High.
15Yet thou shalt be brought downto hell,to the sidesof the pit.
16They that seethee shall narrowly lookupon thee, [and] considerthee, [saying, Is] this the manthat made the earthto tremble,that did shakekingdoms;
17[That] madethe worldas a wilderness,and destroyedthe citiesthereof; [that] openednot the houseof his prisoners?
18All the kingsof the nations,[even] all of them, liein glory,every onein his own house.
19But thou art cast outof thy gravelike an abominablebranch,[and as] the raimentof those that are slain,thrust throughwith a sword,that go downto the stonesof the pit;as a carcasetrodden under feet.
20Thou shalt not be joinedwith them in burial,because thou hast destroyedthy land,[and] slainthy people:the seedof evildoersshall neverbe renowned.
21Prepareslaughterfor his childrenfor the iniquityof their fathers;that they do notrise,nor possessthe land,nor fillthe faceof the worldwith cities.
22For I will rise upagainst them, saiththe LORDof hosts,and cut offfrom Babylonthe name,and remnant,and son,and nephew,saiththe LORD.23I will also makeit a possessionfor the bittern,and poolsof water:and I will sweepit with the besomof destruction,saiththe LORDof hosts.
God's Purpose against Assyria
24The LORDof hostshath sworn,saying,Surely as I have thought,so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed,[so] shall it stand:25That I will breakthe Assyrianin my land,and upon my mountainstread him under foot:then shall his yokedepartfrom off them, and his burdendepartfrom off their shoulders.26This [is] the purposethat is purposedupon the whole earth:and this [is] the handthat is stretched outupon all the nations.27For the LORDof hostshath purposed,and who shall disannul[it]? and his hand[is] stretched out,and who shall turn it back?
Philistia will Be Destroyed
28In the yearthat kingAhazdiedwas this burden.
29Rejoicenot thou, whole Palestina,because the rodof him that smotethee is broken:for out of the serpent'srootshall come fortha cockatrice,and his fruit[shall be] a fieryflyingserpent.
30And the firstbornof the poorshall feed,and the needyshall lie downin safety:and I will killthy rootwith famine,and he shall slaythy remnant.
31Howl,O gate;cry,O city;thou, whole Palestina,[art] dissolved:for there shall comefrom the northa smoke,and none [shall be] alonein his appointed times.
32What shall [one] then answerthe messengersof the nation?That the LORDhath foundedZion,and the poorof his peopleshall trustin it.
