God's Charges against Israel
1Hearthe wordof the LORD,ye childrenof Israel:for the LORDhath a controversywith the inhabitantsof the land,because [there is] no truth,nor mercy,nor knowledgeof Godin the land.
2By swearing,and lying,and killing,and stealing,and committing adultery,they break out,and bloodtouchethblood.
3Therefore shall the landmourn,and every one that dwelleththerein shall languish,with the beastsof the field,and with the fowlsof heaven;yea, the fishesof the seaalso shall be taken away.
4Yet let no manstrive,nor reproveanother:for thy people[are] as they that strivewith the priest.
5Therefore shalt thou fallin the day,and the prophetalso shall fallwith thee in the night,and I will destroythy mother.
6My peopleare destroyedfor lack of knowledge:because thou hast rejectedknowledge,I will also rejectthee, that thou shalt be no priestto me: seeing thou hast forgottenthe lawof thy God,I will also forgetthy children.
7As they were increased,so they sinnedagainst me: [therefore] will I changetheir gloryinto shame.
8They eat upthe sinof my people,and they settheir hearton their iniquity.
9And there shall be, like people,like priest:and I will punishthem for their ways,and rewardthem their doings.
10For they shall eat,and not have enough:they shall commit whoredom,and shall not increase:because they have left offto take heedto the LORD.
11Whoredomand wineand new winetake awaythe heart.
12My peopleaskcounsel at their stocks,and their staffdeclarethunto them: for the spiritof whoredomshath caused [them] to err,and they have gone a whoringfrom under their God.
13They sacrificeupon the topsof the mountains,and burn incenseupon the hills,under oaksand poplarsand elms,because the shadowthereof [is] good:therefore your daughtersshall commit whoredom,and your spousesshall commit adultery.
14I will not punishyour daughterswhen they commit whoredom,nor your spouseswhen they commit adultery:for themselves are separatedwith whores,and they sacrificewith harlots:therefore the people[that] doth not understandshall fall.
15Though thou, Israel,play the harlot,[yet] let not Judahoffend;and comenot ye unto Gilgal,neither go ye upto Bethaven,nor swear,The LORDliveth.
16For Israelslideth backas a backslidingheifer:now the LORDwill feedthem as a lambin a large place.
17Ephraim[is] joinedto idols:let him alone.
18Their drinkis sour:they have committed whoredomcontinually:her rulers[with] shamedo love,Giveye.
19The windhath bound her upin her wings,and they shall be ashamedbecause of their sacrifices.
