Pay Attention to Salvation
1Thereforeweoughtto give the more earnestheedto the things which we have heard,lest at any timewe should let [them] slip.2Forifthe wordspokenbyangelswasstedfast,andeverytransgressionanddisobediencereceiveda justrecompence of reward;3Howshall weescape,if we neglectso greatsalvation;whichat the firstbeganto be spokenbythe Lord,and was confirmeduntousbythem that heard[him];4Godalso bearing [them] witness,bothwith signsandwonders,andwith diversmiracles,andgiftsof the HolyGhost,according tohis ownwill?
Jesus Made Like His Brothers
5Forunto the angelshath henotput in subjectionthe worldto come,whereofwe speak.
6Butonein a certain placetestified,saying,Whatisman,thatthou art mindfulof him?orthe sonof man,thatthou visitesthim?
7Thou madesthima littlelowerthanthe angels;thou crownedsthimwith gloryandhonour,anddidst sethimoverthe worksof thyhands:
8Thou hast putall thingsin subjectionunderhisfeet.Forinthat he putallin subjection underhim,he leftnothing [that is] notput underhim.Butnowwe seenot yetall thingsput underhim.
9Butwe seeJesus,whowas madea littlelowerthanthe angelsforthe sufferingof death,crownedwith gloryandhonour;thatheby the graceof Godshould tastedeathforevery man.
10Forit becamehim,forwhom[are] all things,andbywhom[are] all things,in bringingmanysonsuntoglory,to makethe captainof theirsalvationperfectthroughsufferings.11Forbothhe that sanctifiethandthey who are sanctified[are] allofone:forwhichcausehe isnotashamedto callthembrethren,
12Saying,I will declarethynameunto mybrethren,inthe midstof the churchwill I sing praiseunto thee.
13Andagain,Iwillput my trustinhim.Andagain,BeholdIandthe childrenwhichGodhath givenme.
14Forasmuchthenas the childrenare partakersof fleshandblood,healsohimselflikewisetook partof the same;thatthroughdeathhe might destroyhim that hadthe powerof death,that is,the devil;15Anddeliverthemwhothroughfearof deathwerealltheir lifetimesubjectto bondage.16Forverilyhe tooknoton[him the nature of] angels;buthe took on[him] the seedof Abraham.17Whereforeinall thingsit behoved himto be made likeunto [his] brethren,thathe might bea mercifulandfaithfulhigh priestin things [pertaining] toGod,tomake reconciliation forthe sinsof the people.18Forinthathehimselfhath sufferedbeing tempted,he is ableto succourthem that are tempted.
