Mourning and Burial for Jacob

1And Josephfellupon his father'sface,and weptupon him, and kissedhim.2And Josephcommandedhis servantsthe physiciansto embalmhis father:and the physiciansembalmedIsrael.3And fortydayswere fulfilledfor him; for so are fulfilledthe daysof those which are embalmed:and the Egyptiansmournedfor him threescore and tendays.

4And when the daysof his mourningwere past,Josephspakeunto the houseof Pharaoh,saying,If now I have foundgracein your eyes,speak,I pray you, in the earsof Pharaoh,saying,5My fathermade me swear,saying,Lo,I die:in my gravewhich I have diggedfor me in the landof Canaan,there shalt thou bury me.Now therefore let me go up,I pray thee, and burymy father,and I will come again.6And Pharaohsaid,Go up,and burythy father,according as he made thee swear.

7And Josephwent upto buryhis father:and with him went upall the servantsof Pharaoh,the eldersof his house,and all the eldersof the landof Egypt,8And all the houseof Joseph,and his brethren,and his father'shouse:only their little ones,and their flocks,and their herds,they leftin the landof Goshen.9And there went upwith him both chariotsand horsemen:and it was a verygreatcompany.10And they cameto the threshingfloorof Atad,which [is] beyondJordan,and there they mournedwith a greatand verysorelamentation:and he madea mourningfor his fathersevendays.11And when the inhabitantsof the land,the Canaanites,sawthe mourningin the floorof Atad,they said,This [is] a grievousmourningto the Egyptians:wherefore the name of itwas calledAbelmizraim,which [is] beyondJordan.

12And his sonsdidunto him according as he commandedthem:13For his sonscarriedhim into the landof Canaan,and buriedhim in the caveof the fieldof Machpelah,which Abrahamboughtwith the fieldfor a possessionof a buryingplaceof Ephronthe Hittite,beforeMamre.14And Josephreturnedinto Egypt,he, and his brethren,and all that went upwith him to buryhis father,afterhe had buriedhis father.

Joseph Comforts his Brothers

15And when Joseph'sbrethrensawthat their fatherwas dead,they said,Josephwill peradventurehate us,and will certainlyrequiteus all the evilwhich we didunto him.16And they sent a messengerunto Joseph,saying,Thy fatherdid commandbeforehe died,saying,17So shall ye sayunto Joseph,Forgive,I pray theenow, the trespassof thy brethren,and their sin;for they didunto thee evil:and now, we pray thee, forgivethe trespassof the servantsof the Godof thy father.And Josephweptwhen they spakeunto him.18And his brethrenalso wentand fell downbefore his face;and they said,Behold, we [be] thy servants.19And Josephsaidunto them, Fearnot: for [am] I in the place of God?20But as for you, ye thoughtevilagainst me; [but] Godmeant itunto good,tobring to pass,as [it is] this day,to savemuchpeoplealive.21Now therefore fearye not: I will nourishyou, and your little ones.And he comfortedthem, and spakekindlyunto them.

The Death of Joseph

22And Josephdweltin Egypt,he, and his father'shouse:and Josephlivedan hundredand tenyears.23And JosephsawEphraim'schildrenof the third[generation]: the childrenalso of Machirthe sonof Manassehwere brought upupon Joseph'sknees.24And Josephsaidunto his brethren,I die:and Godwill surelyvisityou, and bring you outof this landunto the landwhich he swareto Abraham,to Isaac,and to Jacob.25And Josephtook an oathof the childrenof Israel,saying,Godwill surelyvisityou, and ye shall carry upmy bonesfrom hence.26So Josephdied,[being] an hundredand tenyearsold:and they embalmedhim, and he was putin a coffinin Egypt.
