KJV + Strong's Joseph's Brothers Sent to Egypt 1Now when Jacobsawthat there wascornin Egypt,Jacobsaidunto his sons,Why do ye lookone upon another?2And he said,Behold, I have heardthat there iscornin Egypt:get you downthither, and buyfor us from thence; that we may live,and not die.3And Joseph'stenbrethrenwent downto buycornin Egypt.4But Benjamin,Joseph'sbrother,Jacobsentnot with his brethren;for he said,Lest peradventuremischiefbefall him.5And the sonsof Israelcameto buy[corn] amongthose that came:for the faminewas in the landof Canaan. 6And Joseph[was] the governorover the land,[and] he [it was] that soldto all the peopleof the land:and Joseph'sbrethrencame,and bowed downthemselves before him [with] their facesto the earth.7And Josephsawhis brethren,and he knewthem, but made himself strangeunto them, and spakeroughlyunto them; and he saidunto them, Whencecomeye? And they said,From the landof Canaanto buyfood. 8And Josephknewhis brethren,but they knewnot him.9And Josephrememberedthe dreamswhich he dreamedof them, and saidunto them, Ye [are] spies;to seethe nakednessof the landye are come.10And they saidunto him, Nay, my lord,but to buyfoodare thy servantscome.11We[are] all oneman'ssons;we [are] TRUE[men], thy servantsare no spies.12And he saidunto them, Nay, but to seethe nakednessof the landye are come.13And they said,Thy servants[are] twelvebrethren,the sonsof onemanin the landof Canaan;and, behold, the youngest[is] this daywith our father,and one[is] not.14And Josephsaidunto them, That [is it] that I spakeunto you, saying,Ye [are] spies:15Herebyye shall be proved:By the lifeof Pharaohye shall not go forthhence, except your youngestbrothercomehither.16Sendoneof you, and let him fetchyour brother,and ye shall be kept in prison,that your wordsmay be proved,whether [there be any] truthinyou: or elseby the lifeof Pharaohsurely ye [are] spies.17And he put them all togetherinto wardthreedays. 18And Josephsaidunto them the thirdday,This do,and live;[for] I fearGod:19If ye [be] TRUE[men], let oneof your brethrenbe boundin the houseof your prison:goye, carrycornfor the famineof your houses:20But bringyour youngestbrotherunto me; so shall your wordsbe verified,and ye shall not die.And they didso.21And they saidoneto another,We [are] verilyguiltyconcerning our brother,in thatwe sawthe anguishof his soul,when he besoughtus, and we would not hear;therefore is this distresscomeupon us.22And Reubenansweredthem, saying,Spake Inot unto you, saying,Do not sinagainst the child;and ye would not hear?therefore, behold, also his bloodis required.23And they knewnot that Josephunderstood[them]; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.24And he turned himself aboutfrom them, and wept;and returned to them again,and communedwith them, and tookfrom them Simeon,and boundhim before their eyes. Joseph's Brothers Return to Canaan 25Then Josephcommandedto filltheir sackswith corn,and to restoreevery man'smoneyinto his sack,and to givethem provisionfor the way:and thusdid heunto them. 26And they ladedtheir asseswith the corn,and departedthence.27And as oneof them openedhis sackto givehis assprovenderin the inn,he espiedhis money;for, behold, it [was] in his sack'smouth.28And he saidunto his brethren,My moneyis restored;and, lo,[it is] even in my sack:and their heartfailed[them], and they were afraid,sayingoneto another,What [is] this [that] Godhath doneunto us? 29And they cameunto Jacobtheir fatherunto the landof Canaan,and toldhim all that befellunto them; saying,30The man,[who is] the lordof the land,spakeroughlyto us, and tookus for spiesof the country.31And we saidunto him, We [are] TRUE[men]; we are no spies:32We [be] twelvebrethren,sonsof our father;one[is] not, and the youngest[is] this daywith our fatherin the landof Canaan.33And the man,the lordof the country,saidunto us, Hereby shall I knowthat ye [are] TRUE[men]; leaveoneof your brethren[here] with me, and take[food for] the famineof your households,and be gone:34And bringyour youngestbrotherunto me: then shall I knowthat ye [are] no spies,but [that] ye [are] TRUE[men: so] will I deliveryou your brother,and ye shall traffickin the land. 35And it came to pass as they emptiedtheir sacks,that, behold, every man'sbundleof money[was] in his sack:and when [both] they and their fathersawthe bundlesof money,they were afraid.36And Jacobtheir fathersaidunto them, Me have ye bereaved[of my children]: Joseph[is] not, and Simeon[is] not, and ye will takeBenjamin[away]: all these things are against me.37And Reubenspakeunto his father,saying,Slaymy twosons,if I bringhim not to thee: deliverhim into my hand,and I will bring him to thee again.38And he said,My sonshall not go downwith you; for his brotheris dead,and he is leftalone: if mischiefbefallhim by the wayin the which ye go,then shall ye bring downmy gray hairswith sorrowto the grave. |
