For Jacobknewnot that Rachelhad stolenthem. 33And Labanwentinto Jacob'stent, and into Leah'stent, and into the twomaidservants'tents;but he found[them] not. Then went he outof Leah'stent, and enteredinto Rachel'stent.34Now Rachelhad takenthe images, and putthem in the camel'sfurniture, and satupon them. And Labansearchedall the tent, but found[them] not.35And she saidto her father,Let it not displeasemy lordthat I cannotrise upbefore thee;for the customof women[is] upon me. And he searched, but foundnot the images. 36And Jacobwas wroth, and chodewith Laban:and Jacobansweredand saidto Laban,What [is] my trespass?what [is] my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursuedafter me?37Whereasthou hast searchedall my stuff, what hast thou foundof all thy householdstuff?set[it] herebefore my brethrenand thy brethren, that they may judgebetwixtus both.38This twentyyears[have] I [been] with thee; thy ewesand thy she goatshave not cast their young, and the ramsof thy flockhave I not eaten.39That which was torn[of beasts] I broughtnot unto thee; I bare the lossof it; of my handdidst thou requireit, [whether] stolenby day,or stolenby night.40[Thus] I was; in the daythe droughtconsumedme, and the frostby night;and my sleepdepartedfrom mine eyes.41Thus have I been twentyyearsin thy house;I served theefourteenyearsfor thy twodaughters, and sixyearsfor thy cattle:and thou hast changedmy wagestentimes.42Exceptthe Godof my father, the Godof Abraham, and the fearof Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me awaynow empty.Godhath seenmine afflictionand the labourof my hands, and rebuked[thee] yesternight. Jacob's Covenant with Laban 43And Labanansweredand saidunto Jacob,[These] daughters[are] my daughters, and [these] children[are] my children, and [these] cattle[are] my cattle, and all that thou seest[is] mine: and what can I dothis dayunto these my daughters, orunto their childrenwhich they have born?44Now therefore come thou, let us makea covenant,I and thou; and let it be for a witnessbetween me and thee.45And Jacobtooka stone, and set it up[for] a pillar.46And Jacobsaidunto his brethren,Gatherstones;and they tookstones, and madean heap:and they did eatthere upon the heap.47And Labancalledit Jegarsahadutha:but Jacobcalledit Galeed.48And Labansaid,This heap[is] a witnessbetween me and thee this day. Therefore was the nameof it calledGaleed;49And Mizpah;forhe said,The LORDwatchbetween me and thee, when we are absentonefrom another.50If thou shalt afflictmy daughters,or if thou shalt take[other] wivesbesidemy daughters,no man[is] with us; see,God[is] witnessbetwixt me and thee.51And Labansaidto Jacob,Behold this heap, and behold [this] pillar, which I have castbetwixt me and thee;52This heap[be] witness, and [this] pillar[be] witness, that I will not pass overthis heapto thee, and that thou shalt not pass overthis heapand this pillarunto me, for harm.53The Godof Abraham, and the Godof Nahor, the Godof their father, judgebetwixt us. And Jacobswareby the fearof his fatherIsaac.54Then Jacobofferedsacrificeupon the mount, and calledhis brethrento eatbread:and they did eatbread, and tarried all nightin the mount.55And earlyin the morningLabanrose up,and kissedhis sonsand his daughters, and blessedthem: and Labandeparted, and returnedunto his place. |
