The Calling of Abram
(Genesis 26:1-5)
1Now the LORDhad saidunto Abram,Get thee outof thy country,and from thy kindred,and from thy father'shouse,unto a landthat I will shewthee:
2And I will make of theea greatnation,and I will blessthee, and makethy namegreat;and thou shalt be a blessing:
3And I will blessthem that blessthee, and cursehim that curseththee: and in thee shall all familiesof the earthbe blessed.
4So Abramdeparted,as the LORDhad spokenunto him; and Lotwentwith him: and Abram[was] seventyand fiveyearsoldwhen he departedout of Haran.5And AbramtookSaraihis wife,and Lothis brother'sson,and all their substancethat they had gathered,and the soulsthat they had gottenin Haran;and they went forthto gointo the landof Canaan;and into the landof Canaanthey came.6And Abrampassed throughthe landunto the placeof Sichem,unto the plainof Moreh.And the Canaanite[was] thenin the land.7And the LORDappearedunto Abram,and said,Unto thy seedwill I givethisland:and there buildedhe an altarunto the LORD,who appearedunto him.8And he removedfrom thence unto a mountainon the eastof Bethel,and pitchedhis tent,[having] Bethelon the west,and Haion the east:and there he buildedan altarunto the LORD,and calledupon the nameof the LORD.9And Abramjourneyed,going onstilltoward the south.

10And there was a faminein the land:and Abramwent downinto Egyptto sojournthere; for the famine[was] grievousin the land.11And it came to pass, whenhe was come nearto enterinto Egypt,that he saidunto Saraihis wife,Beholdnow,I knowthat thou [art] a fairwomanto look upon:12Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptiansshall seethee, that they shall say,This [is] his wife:and they will killme, but they will save thee alive.13Say,I pray thee,thou [art] my sister:thatit may be wellwith me for thy sake; and my soulshall livebecause of thee.14And it came to pass, that, when Abramwas comeinto Egypt,the Egyptiansbeheldthe womanthat she [was] veryfair.15The princesalso of Pharaohsawher, and commendedher beforePharaoh:and the womanwas takeninto Pharaoh'shouse.16And he entreatedAbramwellfor her sake: and he had sheep,and oxen,and he asses,and menservants,and maidservants,and she asses,and camels.
17And the LORDplaguedPharaohand his housewith greatplaguesbecause ofSaraiAbram'swife.18And PharaohcalledAbram,and said,What [is] this [that] thou hast doneunto me? why didst thou not tellme that she [was] thy wife?19Why saidst thou,She [is] my sister?so I might have takenher to me to wife:now therefore behold thy wife,take[her], and go thy way.20And Pharaohcommanded[his] menconcerning him: and they sent him away,and his wife,and all that he had.
