Ezekiel Eats the Scroll

1Moreover he saidunto me, Sonof man,eatthat thou findest;eatthis roll,and gospeakunto the houseof Israel.2So I openedmy mouth,and he caused me to eatthat roll.3And he saidunto me, Sonof man,cause thy bellyto eat,and fillthy bowelswith this rollthat I givethee. Then did I eat[it]; and it was in my mouthas honeyfor sweetness.

4And he saidunto me, Sonof man,go,getthee unto the houseof Israel,and speakwith my wordsunto them.5For thou [art] not sentto a peopleof a strangespeechand of an hardlanguage,[but] to the houseof Israel;6Not to manypeopleof a strangespeechand of an hardlanguage,whose wordsthou canst not understand.Surely, had I sentthee to them, they would have hearkenedunto thee.7But the houseof Israelwillnot hearkenunto thee; for they willnot hearkenunto me: for all the houseof Israel[are] impudentand hardhearted.8Behold, I have madethy facestrongagainsttheir faces,and thy foreheadstrongagainsttheir foreheads.9As an adamantharderthan flinthave I madethy forehead:fearthem not, neither be dismayedat their looks,though they [be] a rebellioushouse.10Moreover he saidunto me, Sonof man,all my wordsthat I shall speakunto thee receivein thine heart,and hearwith thine ears.11And go,getthee to them of the captivity,unto the childrenof thy people,and speakunto them, and tellthem, Thus saiththe LordGOD;whether they will hear,or whether they will forbear.

12Then the spirittook me up,and I heardbehindme a voiceof a greatrushing,[saying], Blessed[be] the gloryof the LORDfrom his place.13[I heard] also the noiseof the wingsof the living creaturesthat touchedoneanother,and the noiseof the wheelsover againstthem, and a noiseof a greatrushing.14So the spiritlifted me up,and took me away,and I wentin bitterness,in the heatof my spirit;but the handof the LORDwas strongupon me.15Then I cameto them of the captivityat Telabib,that dweltby the riverof Chebar,and I satwhere they sat,and remainedthere astonishedamongthem sevendays.

A Watchman for Israel

16And it came to pass at the endof sevendays,that the wordof the LORDcame unto me, saying,17Sonof man,I have madethee a watchmanunto the houseof Israel:therefore hearthe wordat my mouth,and give them warningfrom me.18When I sayunto the wicked,Thou shalt surelydie;and thou givest him not warning,nor speakestto warnthe wickedfrom his wickedway,to save his life;the same wicked[man] shall diein his iniquity;but his bloodwill I requireat thine hand.19Yet if thou warnthe wicked,and he turnnot from his wickedness,nor from his wickedway,he shall diein his iniquity;but thou hast deliveredthy soul.20Again,When a righteous[man] doth turnfrom his righteousness,and commitiniquity,and I laya stumblingblockbeforehim, he shall die:because thou hast not given him warning,he shall diein his sin,and his righteousnesswhich he hath doneshall not be remembered;but his bloodwill I requireat thine hand.21Nevertheless if thou warnthe righteous[man], that the righteoussinnot, and he doth not sin,he shall surelylive,because he is warned;also thou hast deliveredthy soul.

22And the handof the LORDwas there upon me; and he saidunto me, Arise,go forthinto the plain,and I will there talkwith thee.23Then I arose,and went forthinto the plain:and, behold, the gloryof the LORDstoodthere, as the glorywhich I sawby the riverof Chebar:and I fellon my face.24Then the spiritenteredinto me, and setme upon my feet,and spakewith me, and saidunto me, Go,shutthyself withinthine house.25But thou, O sonof man,behold, they shall putbandsupon thee, and shall bindthee with them, and thou shalt not go outamongthem:26And I will make thy tonguecleaveto the roof of thy mouth,that thou shalt be dumb,and shalt not be to them a reprover:for they [are] a rebellioushouse.27But when I speakwiththee, I will openthy mouth,and thou shalt sayunto them, Thus saiththe LordGOD;He that heareth,let him hear;and he that forbeareth,let him forbear:for they [are] a rebellioushouse.
