(Numbers 20:2-13) 1And all the congregationof the childrenof Israeljourneyedfrom the wildernessof Sin,after their journeys,according to the commandmentof the LORD,and pitchedin Rephidim:and [there was] no waterfor the peopleto drink.2Wherefore the peopledid chidewith Moses,and said,Giveus waterthat we may drink.And Mosessaidunto them, Why chideye with me? wherefore do ye temptthe LORD?3And the peoplethirstedthere for water;and the peoplemurmuredagainst Moses,and said,Wherefore [is] this [that] thou hast broughtus up out of Egypt,to killus and our childrenand our cattlewith thirst?4And Mosescriedunto the LORD,saying,What shall I dounto this people?they be almostready to stoneme.5And the LORDsaidunto Moses,Go onbeforethe people,and takewith thee of the eldersof Israel;and thy rod,wherewith thou smotestthe river,takein thine hand,and go.6Behold, I will standbeforethee there upon the rockin Horeb;and thou shalt smitethe rock,and there shall comewaterout of it, that the peoplemay drink.And Mosesdidso in the sightof the eldersof Israel.7And he calledthe nameof the placeMassah,and Meribah,because of the chidingof the childrenof Israel,and because they temptedthe LORD,saying,Isthe LORDamongus, or not? The Defeat of the Amalekites 8Then cameAmalek,and foughtwith Israelin Rephidim.9And Mosessaidunto Joshua,Choose us outmen,and go out,fightwith Amalek:to morrowI will standon the topof the hillwith the rodof Godin mine hand.10So Joshuadidas Moseshad saidto him, and foughtwith Amalek:and Moses,Aaron,and Hurwent upto the topof the hill.11And it came to pass, when Mosesheld uphis hand,that Israelprevailed:and when he let downhis hand,Amalekprevailed.12But Moses'hands[were] heavy;and they tooka stone,and put[it] under him, and he satthereon; and Aaronand Hurstayed uphis hands,the one on the one side,and the other on the other side;and his handswere steadyuntil the going downof the sun.13And JoshuadiscomfitedAmalekand his peoplewith the edgeof the sword. 14And the LORDsaidunto Moses,Writethis [for] a memorialin a book,and rehearse[it] in the earsof Joshua:for I will utterlyput outthe remembranceof Amalekfrom under heaven.15And Mosesbuiltan altar,and calledthe nameof it Jehovahnissi:16For he said,Because the LORDhath sworn[that] the LORD[will have] warwith Amalekfrom generationto generation. |
