Pharaoh Pursues the Israelites
1And the LORDspakeunto Moses,saying,2Speakunto the childrenof Israel, that they turnand encampbeforePihahiroth, between Migdoland the sea, over againstBaalzephon:beforeit shall ye encampby the sea.3For Pharaohwill sayof the childrenof Israel,They [are] entangledin the land, the wildernesshath shut them in.4And I will hardenPharaoh'sheart, that he shall followafterthem; and I will be honouredupon Pharaoh, and upon all his host;that the Egyptiansmay knowthat I [am] the LORD.And they didso.
5And it was toldthe kingof Egyptthat the peoplefled:and the heartof Pharaohand of his servantswas turnedagainst the people, and they said,Why have we donethis, that we have let Israelgofrom servingus?6And he made readyhis chariot, and tookhis peoplewith him:7And he tooksixhundredchosenchariots, and all the chariotsof Egypt, and captainsover every one of them.8And the LORDhardenedthe heartof Pharaohkingof Egypt, and he pursuedafterthe childrenof Israel:and the childrenof Israelwent outwith an highhand.9But the Egyptianspursuedafterthem, all the horses[and] chariotsof Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtookthem encampingby the sea, beside Pihahiroth, beforeBaalzephon.
10And when Pharaohdrew nigh, the childrenof Israellifted uptheir eyes, and, behold, the Egyptiansmarchedafterthem; and they were soreafraid:and the childrenof Israelcried outunto the LORD.11And they saidunto Moses,Because [there were] no gravesin Egypt, hast thou taken us awayto diein the wilderness?whereforehast thou dealtthus with us, to carry us forthout of Egypt?12[Is] not this the wordthat we did tellthee in Egypt, saying,Let us alone, that we may servethe Egyptians? For [it had been] betterfor us to servethe Egyptians, than that we should diein the wilderness.
13And Mosessaidunto the people,Fearye not, stand still, and seethe salvationof the LORD,which he will shewto you to day:for the Egyptianswhom ye have seento day,ye shall seethem againno more forever.14The LORDshall fightfor you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Parting the Red Sea
15And the LORDsaidunto Moses,Wherefore criestthou unto me? speakunto the childrenof Israel, that they go forward:16But lift thou upthy rod,and stretch outthine handover the sea,and divideit: and the childrenof Israelshall goon dry[ground] through the midstof the sea.17And I, behold, I will hardenthe heartsof the Egyptians, and they shall followthem:and I will get me honourupon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.18And the Egyptiansshall knowthat I [am] the LORD,when I have gotten me honourupon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
19And the angelof God,which wentbeforethe campof Israel, removedand wentbehindthem; and the pillarof the cloudwentfrom before their face, and stoodbehindthem:20And it camebetween the campof the Egyptiansand the campof Israel;and it was a cloudand darkness[to them], but it gave lightby night[to these]: so that the one came not nearthe otherall the night.
21And Mosesstretched outhis handover the sea;and the LORDcaused the seato go[back] by a strongeastwindall that night, and madethe seadry[land], and the waterswere divided.22And the childrenof Israelwentinto the midstof the seaupon the dry[ground]: and the waters[were] a wallunto them on their right hand, and on their left.23And the Egyptianspursued, and went inafterthem to the midstof the sea,[even] all Pharaoh'shorses, his chariots, and his horsemen.24And it came to pass, that in the morningwatchthe LORDlookedunto the hostof the Egyptiansthrough the pillarof fireand of the cloud, and troubledthe hostof the Egyptians,25And took offtheir chariotwheels, that they dravethem heavily:so that the Egyptianssaid,Let us fleefrom the faceof Israel;for the LORDfightethfor them against the Egyptians.
26And the LORDsaidunto Moses,Stretch outthine handover the sea, that the watersmay come againupon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.27And Mosesstretched forthhis handover the sea,and the seareturnedto his strengthwhen the morningappeared;and the Egyptiansfledagainstit; and the LORDoverthrewthe Egyptiansin the midstof the sea.28And the watersreturned, and coveredthe chariots, and the horsemen,[and] all the hostof Pharaohthat cameinto the seaafterthem; there remainednot so much asoneof them.29But the childrenof Israelwalkedupon dry[land] in the midstof the sea;and the waters[were] a wallunto them on their right hand, and on their left.
30Thus the LORDsavedIsraelthat dayout of the handof the Egyptians;and Israelsawthe Egyptiansdeadupon the seashore.31And Israelsawthat greatworkwhich the LORDdidupon the Egyptians:and the peoplefearedthe LORD,and believedthe LORD,and his servantMoses.
