Mordecai is Honored
1On that nightcould notthe kingsleep,and he commandedto bringthe bookof recordsof the chronicles;and they were readbeforethe king.2And it was foundwritten,that Mordecaihad toldof Bigthanaand Teresh,twoof the king'schamberlains,the keepersof the door,who soughtto layhandon the kingAhasuerus.3And the kingsaid,What honourand dignityhath been doneto Mordecaifor this? Then saidthe king'sservantsthat ministeredunto him, There is nothingdonefor him.4And the kingsaid,Who [is] in the court?Now Hamanwas comeinto the outwardcourtof the king'shouse,to speakunto the kingto hangMordecaion the gallowsthat he had preparedfor him.5And the king'sservantssaidunto him, Behold, Hamanstandethin the court.And the kingsaid,Let him come in.6So Hamancame in.And the kingsaidunto him, What shall be doneunto the manwhom the kingdelightethto honour?Now Hamanthoughtin his heart,To whom would the kingdelightto dohonourmorethan to myself?7And Hamanansweredthe king,For the manwhom the kingdelightethto honour,8Let the royalapparelbe broughtwhich the king[useth] to wear,and the horsethat the kingridethupon, and the crownroyalwhich is setupon his head:9And let this appareland horsebe deliveredto the handof oneof the king'smost nobleprinces,that they may arraythe man[withal] whom the kingdelightethto honour,and bringhim on horsebackthrough the streetof the city,and proclaimbeforehim, Thus shall it be doneto the manwhom the kingdelightethto honour.
Haman Forced to Honor Mordecai
10Then the kingsaidto Haman,Make haste,[and] takethe appareland the horse,as thou hast said,and doeven so to Mordecaithe Jew,that sittethat the king'sgate:let nothingfailof all that thou hast spoken.11Then tookHamanthe appareland the horse,and arrayedMordecai,and brought him on horsebackthrough the streetof the city,and proclaimedbeforehim, Thus shall it be doneunto the manwhom the kingdelightethto honour.
12And Mordecaicame againto the king'sgate.But Hamanhastedto his housemourning,and having his headcovered.13And HamantoldZereshhis wifeand all his friendsevery [thing] that had befallenhim. Then saidhis wise menand Zereshhis wifeunto him, If Mordecai[be] of the seedof the Jews,beforewhom thou hast begunto fall,thou shalt not prevailagainst him, but shalt surelyfallbeforehim.
14And while they [were] yet talkingwith him, camethe king'schamberlains,and hastedto bringHamanunto the banquetthat Estherhad prepared.
