KJV + Strong's Death Comes to Good and Bad 1For all this I consideredin my hearteven to declareall this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works,[are] in the handof God:no manknowetheitherloveor hatred[by] all [that is] beforethem. 2All [things come] alike to all: [there is] oneeventto the righteous, and to the wicked;to the goodand to the clean, and to the unclean;to him that sacrificeth, and to him thatsacrificethnot: as [is] the good,so [is] the sinner;[and] he that sweareth,as [he] that fearethan oath.3This [is] an evilamong all [things] that are doneunder the sun, that [there is] oneeventunto all: yea, also the heartof the sonsof menis fullof evil, and madness[is] in their heartwhile they live, and afterthat [they go] to the dead.4Forto him that isjoined{08675;0977:08792} to all the livingthere is hope:for a livingdogis betterthan a deadlion.5For the livingknowthat they shall die:but the deadknownot any thing, neither have they any more a reward;for the memoryof them is forgotten.6Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy,is nowperished;neither have they any more a portionfor everin any [thing] that is doneunder the sun. Enjoy Your Portion in This Life 7Go thy way, eatthy breadwith joy,and drinkthy winewith a merryheart;for Godnowaccepteththy works.8Let thy garmentsbe alwayswhite;and let thy headlackno ointment.9Livejoyfullywith the wifewhom thou lovestall the daysof the lifeof thy vanity, which he hath giventhee under the sun,all the daysof thy vanity:for that [is] thy portionin [this] life, and in thy labourwhich thou takestunder the sun. 10Whatsoever thy handfindethto do,do[it] with thy might;for [there is] no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom,in the grave, whither thou goest. 11I returned, and sawunder the sun, that the race[is] not to the swift, nor the battleto the strong, neither yet breadto the wise, nor yet richesto men of understanding, nor yet favourto men of skill;but timeand chancehappenethto them all.12For manalso knowethnot his time:as the fishesthat are takenin an evilnet, and as the birdsthat are caughtin the snare;so[are] the sonsof mensnaredin an eviltime, when it fallethsuddenlyupon them. Wisdom Better than Strength 13Thiswisdomhave I seenalso under the sun,and it [seemed] greatunto me:14[There was] a littlecity, and fewmenwithin it; and there camea greatkingagainst it, and besiegedit, and builtgreatbulwarksagainst it:15Now there was foundin it a poorwiseman, and he by his wisdomdeliveredthe city;yet no manrememberedthat same poorman.16Then saidI, Wisdom[is] betterthan strength:nevertheless the poor man'swisdom[is] despised, and his wordsare not heard.17The wordsof wise[men are] heardin quietmore than the cryof him that rulethamong fools.18Wisdom[is] betterthan weaponsof war:but onesinnerdestroyethmuchgood. |
