The Overthrow of Persia
1Also I in the firstyearof Dariusthe Mede,[even] I, stoodto confirmand to strengthenhim.2And now will I shewthee the truth.Behold, there shall stand upyet threekingsin Persia;and the fourthshall be farricherthan [they] all:and by his strengththrough his richeshe shall stir upall against the realmof Grecia.3And a mightykingshall stand up,that shall rulewith greatdominion, and doaccording to his will.4And when he shall stand up,his kingdomshall be broken, and shall be dividedtoward the fourwindsof heaven;and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominionwhich he ruled:for his kingdomshall be plucked up,even for othersbeside those.
Kings of the South and the North
5And the kingof the southshall be strong, and [one] of his princes;and he shall be strongabove him, and have dominion;his dominion[shall be] a greatdominion.6And in the endof yearsthey shall join themselves together;for the king'sdaughterof the southshall cometo the kingof the northto makean agreement:but she shall not retainthe powerof the arm;neither shall he stand, nor his arm:but she shall be given up,and they that broughther, and he that begather, and he that strengthenedher in [these] times.7But out of a branchof her rootsshall [one] stand upin his estate, which shall comewith an army, and shall enterinto the fortressof the kingof the north, and shall dealagainst them, and shall prevail:8And shall also carrycaptivesinto Egypttheir gods, with their princes,[and] with their preciousvesselsof silverand of gold;and he shall continue[more] yearsthan the kingof the north.9So the kingof the southshall comeinto [his] kingdom, and shall returninto his own land.
10But his sonsshall be stirred up,and shall assemblea multitudeof greatforces:and [one] shall certainlycome, and overflow, and pass through:then shall he return, and be stirred up,[even] to his fortress.11And the kingof the southshall be moved with choler, and shall come forthand fightwith him, [even] with the kingof the north:and he shall set fortha greatmultitude;but the multitudeshall be giveninto his hand.12[And] when he hath taken awaythe multitude, his heartshall be lifted up{08675;07311:08799}; and he shall cast down[many] ten thousands:but he shall not be strengthened[by it].13For the kingof the northshall return, and shall set fortha multitudegreaterthan the former, and shall certainlycomeaftercertainyearswith a greatarmyand with muchriches.
14And in those timesthere shall manystand upagainst the kingof the south:also the robbersof thy peopleshall exaltthemselves to establishthe vision;but they shall fall.15So the kingof the northshall come, and cast upa mount, and takethe most fencedcities:and the armsof the southshall not withstand, neither his chosenpeople, neither [shall there be any] strengthto withstand.16But he that comethagainst him shall doaccording to his own will, and none shall standbeforehim: and he shall standin the gloriousland, which by his handshall be consumed.17He shall also sethis faceto enterwith the strengthof his whole kingdom, and upright oneswith him; thus shall he do:and he shall givehim the daughterof women, corruptingher: but she shall not stand[on his side], neither be for him.18After this shall he turn{08675;07725:08686} his faceunto the isles, and shall takemany:but a princefor his own behalf shall cause the reproachoffered by him to cease;withouthis own reproachhe shall cause [it] to turnupon him.19Then he shall turnhis facetoward the fortof his own land:but he shall stumbleand fall, and not be found.
20Then shall stand upin his estatea raiserof taxes[in] the gloryof the kingdom:but within fewdayshe shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.21And in his estateshall stand upa vile person,to whom they shall not givethe honourof the kingdom:but he shall comein peaceably, and obtainthe kingdomby flatteries.22And with the armsof a floodshall they be overflownfrom beforehim, and shall be broken;yea, also the princeof the covenant.23And after the league[made] with him he shall workdeceitfully:for he shall come up,and shall become strongwith a smallpeople.24He shall enterpeaceablyeven upon the fattest placesof the province;and he shall do[that] which his fathershave not done, nor his fathers'fathers;he shall scatteramong them the prey, and spoil, and riches:[yea], and he shall forecasthis devicesagainst the strong holds, even for a time.25And he shall stir uphis powerand his courageagainst the kingof the southwith a greatarmy;and the kingof the southshall be stirred upto battlewith a verygreatand mightyarmy;but he shall not stand:for they shall forecastdevicesagainst him.26Yea, they that feedof the portion of his meatshall destroyhim, and his armyshall overflow:and manyshall falldown slain.27And boththese kings'hearts[shall be] to do mischief, and they shall speakliesat onetable;but it shall not prosper:for yet the end[shall be] at the time appointed.28Then shall he returninto his landwith greatriches;and his heart[shall be] against the holycovenant;and he shall do[exploits], and returnto his own land.
29At the time appointedhe shall return, and cometoward the south;but it shall not be as the former,or as the latter.
The Tyranny of the Western King
30For the shipsof Chittimshall comeagainst him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignationagainst the holycovenant:so shall he do;he shall even return, and have intelligencewith them that forsakethe holycovenant.31And armsshall standon his part, and they shall pollutethe sanctuaryof strength, and shall take awaythe daily[sacrifice], and they shall placethe abominationthat maketh desolate.32And such as do wickedlyagainst the covenantshall he corruptby flatteries:but the peoplethat do knowtheir Godshall be strong, and do[exploits].33And they that understandamong the peopleshall instructmany:yet they shall fallby the sword, and by flame,by captivity, and by spoil,[many] days.34Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpenwith a littlehelp:but manyshall cleaveto them with flatteries.35And [some] of them of understandingshall fall,to trythem, and to purge, and to make [them] white,[even] to the timeof the end:because [it is] yet for a time appointed.
36And the kingshall doaccording to his will;and he shall exalthimself, and magnifyhimself above every god,and shall speakmarvellous thingsagainst the Godof gods, and shall prospertill the indignationbe accomplished:for that that is determinedshall be done.37Neither shall he regardthe Godof his fathers, nor the desireof women, nor regardany god:for he shall magnifyhimself above all.38But in his estateshall he honourthe Godof forces:and a godwhom his fathersknewnot shall he honourwith gold, and silver, and with preciousstones, and pleasant things.39Thus shall he doin the most strongholdswith a strangegod, whom he shall acknowledge{08675;05234:08689} [and] increasewith glory:and he shall cause them to ruleover many, and shall dividethe landfor gain.
40And at the timeof the endshall the kingof the southpushat him: and the kingof the northshall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with manyships;and he shall enterinto the countries, and shall overflowand pass over.41He shall enteralso into the gloriousland, and many[countries] shall be overthrown:but these shall escapeout of his hand,[even] Edom, and Moab, and the chiefof the childrenof Ammon.42He shall stretch forthhis handalso upon the countries:and the landof Egyptshall not escape.43But he shall have powerover the treasuresof goldand of silver, and over all the preciousthings of Egypt:and the Libyansand the Ethiopians[shall be] at his steps.44But tidingsout of the eastand out of the northshall troublehim: therefore he shall go forthwith greatfuryto destroy, and utterly to make awaymany.45And he shall plantthe tabernaclesof his palacebetween the seasin the gloriousholymountain;yet he shall cometo his end,and none shall helphim.
