Punishment Brings No Repentance
1Hearthis word,ye kineof Bashan,that [are] in the mountainof Samaria,which oppressthe poor,which crushthe needy,which sayto their masters,Bring,and let us drink.
2The LordGODhath swornby his holiness,that, lo, the daysshall comeupon you, that he will take you awaywith hooks,and your posteritywith fishhooks.
3And ye shall go outat the breaches,every[cow at that which is] before her; and ye shall cast[them] into the palace,saiththe LORD.
4Cometo Bethel,and transgress;at Gilgalmultiplytransgression;and bringyour sacrificesevery morning,[and] your tithesafter threeyears:
5And offera sacrifice of thanksgivingwith leaven,and proclaim[and] publishthe free offerings:for thislikethyou, O ye childrenof Israel,saiththe LordGOD.
6And I also have givenyou cleannessof teethin all your cities,and wantof breadin all your places:yet have ye not returnedunto me, saiththe LORD.
7And also I have withholdenthe rainfrom you, when [there were] yet threemonthsto the harvest:and I caused it to rainupon onecity,and caused it not to rainupon anothercity:onepiecewas rainedupon, and the piecewhereupon it rainednot withered.
8So two[or] threecitieswanderedunto onecity,to drinkwater;but they were not satisfied:yet have ye not returnedunto me, saiththe LORD.
9I have smittenyou with blastingand mildew:when your gardensand your vineyardsand your fig treesand your olive treesincreased,the palmerwormdevoured[them]: yet have ye not returnedunto me, saiththe LORD.
10I have sentamong you the pestilenceafter the mannerof Egypt:your young menhave I slainwith the sword,and have taken awayyour horses;and I have made the stinkof your campsto come upunto your nostrils:yet have ye not returnedunto me, saiththe LORD.
11I have overthrown[some] of you, as GodoverthrewSodomand Gomorrah,and ye were as a firebrandplucked outof the burning:yet have ye not returnedunto me, saiththe LORD.
12Therefore thus will I dounto thee, O Israel:[and] becauseI will dothis unto thee, prepareto meetthy God,O Israel.
13For, lo, he that formeththe mountains,and createththe wind,and declarethunto manwhat [is] his thought,that makeththe morningdarkness,and treadethupon the high placesof the earth,The LORD,The Godof hosts,[is] his name.
