Judgment on Israel's Neighbors
(2 Kings 16:10-18;2 Chronicles 28:16-21)
1The wordsof Amos,who was among the herdmenof Tekoa,which he sawconcerning Israelin the daysof Uzziahkingof Judah,and in the daysof Jeroboamthe sonof Joashkingof Israel,two yearsbeforethe earthquake.
2And he said,The LORDwill roarfrom Zion,and utterhis voicefrom Jerusalem;and the habitationsof the shepherdsshall mourn,and the topof Carmelshall wither.
3Thus saiththe LORD;For threetransgressionsof Damascus,and for four,I will not turn away[the punishment] thereof; because they have threshedGileadwith threshing instrumentsof iron:
4But I will senda fireinto the houseof Hazael,which shall devourthe palacesof Benhadad.
5I will breakalso the barof Damascus,and cut offthe inhabitantfrom the plainof Aven,and him that holdeththe sceptrefrom the houseof Eden:and the peopleof Syriashall go into captivityunto Kir,saiththe LORD.
6Thus saiththe LORD;For threetransgressionsof Gaza,and for four,I will not turn away[the punishment] thereof; because they carried away captivethe wholecaptivity,to deliver [them] upto Edom:
7But I will senda fireon the wallof Gaza,which shall devourthe palacesthereof:
8And I will cut offthe inhabitantfrom Ashdod,and him that holdeththe sceptrefrom Ashkelon,and I will turnmine handagainst Ekron:and the remnantof the Philistinesshall perish,saiththe LordGOD.
9Thus saiththe LORD;For threetransgressionsof Tyrus,and for four,I will not turn away[the punishment] thereof; because they delivered upthe wholecaptivityto Edom,and rememberednot the brotherlycovenant:
10But I will senda fireon the wallof Tyrus,which shall devourthe palacesthereof.
11Thus saiththe LORD;For threetransgressionsof Edom,and for four,I will not turn away[the punishment] thereof; because he did pursuehis brotherwith the sword,and did cast offall pity,and his angerdid tearperpetually,and he kepthis wrathfor ever:
12But I will senda fireupon Teman,which shall devourthe palacesof Bozrah.
13Thus saiththe LORD;For threetransgressionsof the childrenof Ammon,and for four,I will not turn away[the punishment] thereof; because they have ripped upthe women with childof Gilead,that they might enlargetheir border:
14But I will kindlea firein the wallof Rabbah,and it shall devourthe palacesthereof, with shoutingin the dayof battle,with a tempestin the dayof the whirlwind:
15And their kingshall gointo captivity,he and his princestogether,saiththe LORD.
