David's Triumphs
(1 Chronicles 18:1-13;Psalm 60:1-12)
1And afterthis it came to pass, that Davidsmotethe Philistines,and subduedthem: and DavidtookMethegammahout of the handof the Philistines.
2And he smoteMoab,and measuredthem with a line,casting them downto the ground;even with twolinesmeasuredhe to put to death,and with one fulllineto keep alive.And [so] the Moabitesbecame David'sservants,[and] broughtgifts.
3Davidsmotealso Hadadezer,the sonof Rehob,kingof Zobah,as he wentto recoverhis borderat the riverEuphrates.4And Davidtookfrom him a thousand[chariots], and sevenhundredhorsemen,and twentythousandfootmen:and Davidhoughedall the chariot[horses], but reservedof them [for] an hundredchariots.5And when the Syriansof Damascuscameto succourHadadezerkingof Zobah,Davidslewof the Syrianstwoand twentythousandmen.6Then Davidputgarrisonsin Syriaof Damascus:and the Syriansbecame servantsto David,[and] broughtgifts.And the LORDpreservedDavidwhithersoever he went.7And Davidtookthe shieldsof goldthat were on the servantsof Hadadezer,and broughtthem to Jerusalem.8And from Betah,and from Berothai,citiesof Hadadezer,kingDavidtookexceedingmuchbrass.
9When Toikingof Hamathheardthat Davidhad smittenall the hostof Hadadezer,10Then ToisentJoramhis sonunto kingDavid,to salutehim, and to blesshim, because he had foughtagainst Hadadezer,and smittenhim: for Hadadezerhad warswith Toi.And [Joram] brought with himvesselsof silver,and vesselsof gold,and vesselsof brass:11Which also kingDaviddid dedicateunto the LORD,with the silverand goldthat he had dedicatedof all nationswhich he subdued;12Of Syria,and of Moab,and of the childrenof Ammon,and of the Philistines,and of Amalek,and of the spoilof Hadadezer,sonof Rehob,kingof Zobah.
13And Davidgat[him] a namewhen he returnedfrom smitingof the Syriansin the valleyof salt,[being] eighteenthousand[men].14And he putgarrisonsin Edom;throughout all Edomputhe garrisons,and all they of Edombecame David'sservants.And the LORDpreservedDavidwhithersoever he went.
