KJV + Strong's The Murder of Ishbosheth 1And when Saul'ssonheardthat Abnerwas deadin Hebron,his handswere feeble,and all the Israeliteswere troubled.2And Saul'ssonhadtwomen[that were] captainsof bands:the nameof the one[was] Baanah,and the nameof the otherRechab,the sonsof Rimmona Beerothite,of the childrenof Benjamin:(for Beerothalso was reckonedto Benjamin:3And the Beerothitesfledto Gittaim,and were sojournersthere until this day.) 4And Jonathan,Saul'sson,had a son[that was] lameof [his] feet.He was fiveyearsoldwhen the tidingscameof Sauland Jonathanout of Jezreel,and his nursetook him up,and fled:and it came to pass, as she made hasteto flee,that he fell,and became lame.And his name[was] Mephibosheth. 5And the sonsof Rimmonthe Beerothite,Rechaband Baanah,went,and cameabout the heatof the dayto the houseof Ishbosheth,who layon a bedat noon.6And they came thitherinto the midstof the house,[as though] they would have fetchedwheat;and they smotehim under the fifth[rib]: and Rechaband Baanahhis brotherescaped.7For when they cameinto the house,he layon his bedin his bedchamber,and they smotehim, and slewhim, and beheadedhim, and tookhis head,and gat them awaythroughthe plainall night.8And they broughtthe headof Ishboshethunto Davidto Hebron,and saidto the king,Behold the headof Ishbosheththe sonof Saulthine enemy,which soughtthy life;and the LORDhathavengedmy lordthe kingthis dayof Saul,and of his seed. David Kills the Murderers 9And DavidansweredRechaband Baanahhis brother,the sonsof Rimmonthe Beerothite,and saidunto them, [As] the LORDliveth,who hath redeemedmy soulout of all adversity,10When one toldme, saying,Behold, Saulis dead,thinking to have broughtgood tidings,I took holdof him, and slewhim in Ziklag,who [thought] that I would have givenhim a reward for his tidings:11How much more, when wickedmenhave slaina righteouspersonin his own houseupon his bed?shall I not therefore now requirehis bloodof your hand,and take you awayfrom the earth?12And Davidcommandedhis young men,and they slewthem, and cut offtheir handsand their feet,and hanged [them] upover the poolin Hebron.But they tookthe headof Ishbosheth,and buried[it] in the sepulchreof Abnerin Hebron. |
