(1 Chronicles 21:1-6) 1And againthe angerof the LORDwas kindledagainst Israel,and he movedDavidagainst them to say,Go,numberIsraeland Judah.2For the kingsaidto Joabthe captainof the host,which [was] with him, Go now throughall the tribesof Israel,from Daneven to Beersheba,and numberye the people,that I may knowthe numberof the people.3And Joabsaidunto the king,Now the LORDthy Godaddunto the people,how many soeverthey be, an hundredfold,and that the eyesof my lordthe kingmay see[it]: but why doth my lordthe kingdelightin this thing?4Notwithstanding the king'swordprevailedagainst Joab,and against the captainsof the host.And Joaband the captainsof the hostwent outfrom the presenceof the king,to numberthe peopleof Israel.5And they passed overJordan,and pitchedin Aroer,on the right sideof the citythat [lieth] in the midstof the riverof Gad,and toward Jazer:6Then they cameto Gilead,and to the landof Tahtimhodshi;and they cameto Danjaan,and aboutto Zidon,7And cameto the strong holdof Tyre,and to all the citiesof the Hivites,and of the Canaanites:and they went outto the southof Judah,[even] to Beersheba.8So when they had gonethrough all the land,they cameto Jerusalemat the endof ninemonthsand twentydays.9And Joabgave upthe sumof the numberof the peopleunto the king:and there were in Israeleighthundredthousandvaliantmenthat drewthe sword;and the menof Judah[were] fivehundredthousandmen. (1 Chronicles 21:7-13) 10And David'sheartsmotehim afterthat he had numberedthe people.And Davidsaidunto the LORD,I have sinnedgreatlyin that I have done:and now, I beseech thee, O LORD,take awaythe iniquityof thy servant;for I have done veryfoolishly.11For when Davidwas upin the morning,the wordof the LORDcame unto the prophetGad,David'sseer,saying,12Goand sayunto David,Thus saiththe LORD,I offerthee three[things]; choosethee oneof them, that I may [do it] unto thee.13So Gadcameto David,and toldhim, and saidunto him, Shall sevenyearsof faminecomeunto thee in thy land?or wilt thou fleethreemonthsbeforethine enemies,while they pursuethee? or that there be threedays'pestilencein thy land?now advise,and seewhat answerI shall returnto him that sentme.14And Davidsaidunto Gad,I am in a greatstrait:let us fallnow into the handof the LORD;for his mercies[are] great:and let me not fallinto the handof man. Pestilence Sent 15So the LORDsenta pestilenceupon Israelfrom the morningeven to the timeappointed:and there diedof the peoplefrom Daneven to Beershebaseventythousandmen.16And when the angelstretched outhis handupon Jerusalemto destroyit, the LORDrepentedhim of the evil,and saidto the angelthat destroyedthe people,It is enough:staynow thine hand.And the angelof the LORDwas by the threshingplaceof Araunahthe Jebusite.17And Davidspakeunto the LORDwhen he sawthe angelthat smotethe people,and said,Lo, I have sinned,and I have done wickedly:but these sheep,what have they done?let thine hand,I pray thee, be against me, and against my father'shouse. (1 Chronicles 21:18-30) 18And Gadcamethat dayto David,and saidunto him, Go up,rearan altarunto the LORDin the threshingfloorof Araunahthe Jebusite.19And David,according to the sayingof Gad,went upas the LORDcommanded.20And Araunahlooked,and sawthe kingand his servantscoming ontoward him: and Araunahwent out,and bowedhimself before the kingon his faceupon the ground.21And Araunahsaid,Wherefore is my lordthe kingcometo his servant?And Davidsaid,To buythe threshingfloorof thee, to buildan altarunto the LORD,that the plaguemay be stayedfrom the people.22And Araunahsaidunto David,Let my lordthe kingtakeand offer upwhat [seemeth] goodunto him:behold,[here be] oxenfor burnt sacrifice,and threshing instrumentsand [other] instrumentsof the oxenfor wood.23All these [things] did Araunah,[as] a king,giveunto the king.And Araunahsaidunto the king,The LORDthy Godacceptthee.24And the kingsaidunto Araunah,Nay; but I will surelybuy[it] of thee at a price:neither will I offerburnt offeringsunto the LORDmy Godof that which doth cost me nothing.So Davidboughtthe threshingfloorand the oxenfor fiftyshekelsof silver.25And Davidbuiltthere an altarunto the LORD,and offeredburnt offeringsand peace offerings.So the LORDwas intreatedfor the land,and the plaguewas stayedfrom Israel. |
