(Psalm 63:1-11)

1And when Davidwas a littlepastthe top[of the hill], behold, Zibathe servantof Mephiboshethmethim, with a coupleof assessaddled,and upon them two hundred[loaves] of bread,and an hundredbunches of raisins,and an hundredof summer fruits,and a bottleof wine.2And the kingsaidunto Ziba,What meanest thou by these? And Zibasaid,The asses[be] for the king'shouseholdto ride on;and the breadand summer fruitfor the young mento eat;and the wine,that such as be faintin the wildernessmay drink.3And the kingsaid,And where [is] thy master'sson?And Zibasaidunto the king,Behold, he abidethat Jerusalem:for he said,To dayshall the houseof Israelrestoreme the kingdomof my father.4Then saidthe kingto Ziba,Behold, thine [are] all that [pertained] unto Mephibosheth.And Zibasaid,I humblybeseech thee [that] I may findgracein thy sight,my lord,O king.

Shimei Curses David

5And when kingDavidcameto Bahurim,behold, thence came outa manof the familyof the houseof Saul,whose name[was] Shimei,the sonof Gera:he came forth,and cursedstill as he came.6And he caststonesat David,and at all the servantsof kingDavid:and all the peopleand all the mighty men[were] on his right handand on his left.7And thus saidShimeiwhen he cursed,Come out,come out,thou bloodyman,and thou manof Belial:8The LORDhath returnedupon thee all the bloodof the houseof Saul,in whose stead thou hast reigned;and the LORDhath deliveredthe kingdominto the handof Absalomthy son:and, behold, thou [art taken] in thy mischief,because thou [art] a bloodyman.

9Then saidAbishaithe sonof Zeruiahunto the king,Why should this deaddogcursemy lordthe king?let me go over,I pray thee, and take offhis head.10And the kingsaid,What have I to do with you, ye sonsof Zeruiah?so let him curse,because the LORDhath saidunto him, CurseDavid.Who shall then say,Wherefore hast thou done so?11And Davidsaidto Abishai,and to all his servants,Behold, my son,which came forthof my bowels,seekethmy life:how much more now [may this] Benjamite[do it]? let him alone,and let him curse;for the LORDhath biddenhim.12It may be that the LORDwill lookon mine affliction,and that the LORDwill requiteme goodfor his cursingthis day.13And as Davidand his menwentby the way,Shimeiwent alongon the hill'ssideover againsthim, and cursedas he went,and threwstonesathim, and castdust.14And the king,and all the peoplethat [were] with him, cameweary,and refreshedthemselves there.

The Counsel of Ahithophel and Hushai

15And Absalom,and all the peoplethe menof Israel,cameto Jerusalem,and Ahithophelwith him.16And it came to pass, when Hushaithe Archite,David'sfriend,was comeunto Absalom,that Hushaisaidunto Absalom,God savethe king,God savethe king.17And Absalomsaidto Hushai,[Is] this thy kindnessto thy friend?why wentestthou not with thy friend?18And Hushaisaidunto Absalom,Nay; but whom the LORD,and this people,and all the menof Israel,choose,his will I be, and with him will I abide.19And again,whom should I serve?[should I] not [serve] in the presenceof his son?as I have servedin thy father'spresence,so will I be in thy presence.

20Then saidAbsalomto Ahithophel,Givecounselamong you what we shall do.21And Ahithophelsaidunto Absalom,Go inunto thy father'sconcubines,which he hath leftto keepthe house;and all Israelshall hearthat thou art abhorredof thy father:then shall the handsof all that [are] with thee be strong.22So they spreadAbsaloma tentupon the top of the house;and Absalomwent inunto his father'sconcubinesin the sightof all Israel.23And the counselof Ahithophel,which he counselledin those days,[was] as if a manhad enquiredat the oracleof God:so [was] all the counselof Ahithophelboth with Davidand with Absalom.
