KJV + Strong's Absalom's Conspiracy 1And it came to pass after this,that Absalompreparedhim chariotsand horses,and fiftymento runbeforehim.2And Absalomrose up early,and stoodbesidethe wayof the gate:and it was [so], that when any manthat had a controversycameto the kingfor judgment,then Absalomcalledunto him, and said,Of whatcity[art] thou? And he said,Thy servant[is] of oneof the tribesof Israel.3And Absalomsaidunto him, See,thy matters[are] goodand right;but [there is] no man [deputed] of the kingto hearthee.4Absalomsaidmoreover, Oh that I were madejudgein the land,that every manwhich hath any suitor causemight comeunto me, and I would do him justice!5And it was [so], that when any mancame nigh[to him] to do him obeisance,he put forthhis hand,and tookhim, and kissedhim.6And on this mannerdidAbsalomto all Israelthat cameto the kingfor judgment:so Absalomstolethe heartsof the menof Israel. 7And it came to pass afterfortyyears,that Absalomsaidunto the king,I pray thee, let me goand paymy vow,which I have vowedunto the LORD,in Hebron.8For thy servantvoweda vowwhile I abodeat Geshurin Syria,saying,If the LORDshall bring me again{08676;07725:08686} indeed to Jerusalem,then I will servethe LORD.9And the kingsaidunto him, Goin peace.So he arose,and wentto Hebron.10But Absalomsentspiesthroughout all the tribesof Israel,saying,As soon as ye hearthe soundof the trumpet,then ye shall say,Absalomreignethin Hebron.11And with Absalomwenttwo hundredmenout of Jerusalem,[that were] called;and they wentin their simplicity,and they knewnot any thing.12And Absalomsentfor Ahithophelthe Gilonite,David'scounsellor,from his city,[even] from Giloh,while he offeredsacrifices.And the conspiracywas strong;for the peopleincreasedcontinuallywith Absalom. David Flees Jerusalem 13And there camea messengerto David,saying,The heartsof the menof Israelare afterAbsalom.14And Davidsaidunto all his servantsthat [were] with him at Jerusalem,Arise,and let us flee;for we shall not [else] escapefromAbsalom:make speedto depart,lest he overtakeus suddenly,and bringevilupon us, and smitethe citywith the edgeof the sword.15And the king'sservantssaidunto the king,Behold, thy servants[are ready to do] whatsoever my lordthe kingshall appoint.16And the kingwent forth,and all his householdafterhim. And the kinglefttenwomen,[which were] concubines,to keepthe house.17And the kingwent forth,and all the peopleafterhim, and tarriedin a placethat was far off.18And all his servantspassed onbesidehim; and all the Cherethites,and all the Pelethites,and all the Gittites,sixhundredmenwhich cameafterhim from Gath,passed onbeforethe king. 19Then saidthe kingto Ittaithe Gittite,Wherefore goestthou also with us? returnto thy place,and abidewith the king:for thou [art] a stranger,and also an exile.20Whereas thou camest[but] yesterday,should I this daymake thee goup and down{08675;05128:08799} with us? seeing I gowhither I may, returnthou, and take backthy brethren:mercyand truth[be] with thee.21And Ittaiansweredthe king,and said,[As] the LORDliveth,and [as] my lordthe kingliveth,surely in what placemy lordthe kingshall be, whether in deathor life,even there also will thy servantbe.22And Davidsaidto Ittai,Goand pass over.And Ittaithe Gittitepassed over,and all his men,and all the little onesthat [were] with him.23And all the countryweptwith a loudvoice,and all the peoplepassed over:the kingalso himself passed overthe brookKidron,and all the peoplepassed over,towardthe wayof the wilderness. 24And lo Zadokalso, and all the Levites[were] with him, bearingthe arkof the covenantof God:and they set downthe arkof God;and Abiatharwent up,until all the peoplehad donepassingout of the city.25And the kingsaidunto Zadok,Carry backthe arkof Godinto the city:if I shall findfavourin the eyesof the LORD,he will bring me again,and shewme [both] it, and his habitation:26But if he thus say,I have no delightin thee; behold, [here am] I, let him doto me as seemethgoodunto him.27The kingsaidalso unto Zadokthe priest,[Art not] thou a seer?returninto the cityin peace,and your twosonswith you, Ahimaazthy son,and Jonathanthe sonof Abiathar.28See,I will tarryin the plainof the wilderness,until there comewordfrom you to certifyme.29Zadoktherefore and Abiatharcarriedthe arkof Godagainto Jerusalem:and they tarriedthere. David Weeps at Mount Olivet 30And Davidwent upby the ascentof [mount] Olivet,and weptas he went up,and had his headcovered,and he wentbarefoot:and all the peoplethat [was] with him coveredevery manhis head,and they went up,weepingas they went up.31And [one] toldDavid,saying,Ahithophel[is] among the conspiratorswith Absalom.And Davidsaid,O LORD,I pray thee, turn the counselof Ahithophelinto foolishness. 32And it came to pass, that [when] Davidwas cometo the top[of the mount], where he worshippedGod,behold, Hushaithe Architecame to meethim with his coatrent,and earthupon his head:33Unto whom Davidsaid,If thou passest onwith me, then thou shalt be a burdenunto me:34But if thou returnto the city,and sayunto Absalom,I will be thy servant,O king;[as] I [have been] thy father'sservanthitherto,so [will] I now also [be] thy servant:then mayest thou for me defeatthe counselof Ahithophel.35And [hast thou] not there with thee Zadokand Abiatharthe priests?therefore it shall be, [that] what thingsoever thou shalt hearout of the king'shouse,thou shalt tell[it] to Zadokand Abiatharthe priests.36Behold, [they have] there with them their twosons,AhimaazZadok's[son], and JonathanAbiathar's[son]; and by themye shall sendunto me every thingthat ye can hear.37So HushaiDavid'sfriendcameinto the city,and Absalomcameinto Jerusalem. |
