Jehu Anointed King of Israel

1And Elishathe prophetcalledoneof the childrenof the prophets,and saidunto him, Gird upthy loins,and takethis boxof oilin thine hand,and goto Ramothgilead:2And when thou comestthither, look outthere Jehuthe sonof Jehoshaphatthe sonof Nimshi,and go in,and make him arise upfrom amonghis brethren,and carryhim to an innerchamber;3Then takethe boxof oil,and pour[it] on his head,and say,Thus saiththe LORD,I have anointedthee kingover Israel.Then openthe door,and flee,and tarrynot.

4So the young man,[even] the young manthe prophet,wentto Ramothgilead.5And when he came,behold, the captainsof the host[were] sitting;and he said,I have an errandto thee, O captain.And Jehusaid,Unto which of all us? And he said,To thee, O captain.6And he arose,and wentinto the house;and he pouredthe oilon his head,and saidunto him, Thus saiththe LORDGodof Israel,I have anointedthee kingover the peopleof the LORD,[even] over Israel.7And thou shalt smitethe houseof Ahabthy master,that I may avengethe bloodof my servantsthe prophets,and the bloodof all the servantsof the LORD,at the handof Jezebel.8For the whole houseof Ahabshall perish:and I will cut offfrom Ahabhim that pissethagainst the wall,and him that is shut upand leftin Israel:9And I will makethe houseof Ahablike the houseof Jeroboamthe sonof Nebat,and like the houseof Baashathe sonof Ahijah:10And the dogsshall eatJezebelin the portionof Jezreel,and [there shall be] none to bury[her]. And he openedthe door,and fled.

11Then Jehucame forthto the servantsof his lord:and [one] saidunto him, [Is] all well?wherefore camethis mad[fellow] to thee? And he saidunto them, Ye knowthe man,and his communication.12And they said,[It is] FALSE;tellus now. And he said,Thus and thus spakehe to me, saying,Thus saiththe LORD,I have anointedthee kingover Israel.13Then they hasted,and tookevery manhis garment,and put[it] under him on the topof the stairs,and blewwith trumpets,saying,Jehuis king.

Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah

14So Jehuthe sonof Jehoshaphatthe sonof Nimshiconspiredagainst Joram.(Now Joramhad keptRamothgilead,he and all Israel,becauseof Hazaelkingof Syria.15But kingJoramwas returnedto be healedin Jezreelof the woundswhich the Syrianshad givenhim, when he foughtwith Hazaelkingof Syria.) And Jehusaid,If it beyour minds,[then] let nonego forth[nor] escapeout of the cityto goto tell[it] in Jezreel.16So Jehurode in a chariot,and wentto Jezreel;for Joramlaythere. And Ahaziahkingof Judahwas come downto seeJoram.

17And there stooda watchmanon the towerin Jezreel,and he spiedthe companyof Jehuas he came,and said,I seea company.And Joramsaid,Takean horseman,and sendto meetthem, and let him say,[Is it] peace?18So there wentone on horsebackto meethim, and said,Thus saiththe king,[Is it] peace?And Jehusaid,What hast thou to do with peace?turnthee behindme. And the watchmantold,saying,The messengercameto them, but he cometh not again.19Then he sent outa secondon horseback,which cameto them, and said,Thus saiththe king,[Is it] peace?And Jehuanswered,What hast thou to do with peace?turnthee behindme.20And the watchmantold,saying,He cameeven unto them, and cometh not again:and the driving[is] like the drivingof Jehuthe sonof Nimshi;for he drivethfuriously.

21And Joramsaid,Make ready.And his chariotwas made ready.And Joramkingof Israeland Ahaziahkingof Judahwent out,eachin his chariot,and they went outagainstJehu,and methim in the portionof Naboththe Jezreelite.22And it came to pass, when JoramsawJehu,that he said,[Is it] peace,Jehu?And he answered,What peace,so long asthe whoredomsof thy motherJezebeland her witchcrafts[are so] many?23And Joramturnedhis hands,and fled,and saidto Ahaziah,[There is] treachery,O Ahaziah.24And Jehudrew a bowwith his fullstrength,and smoteJehorambetween his arms,and the arrowwent outat his heart,and he sunk downin his chariot.25Then said[Jehu] to Bidkarhis captain,Take up,[and] casthim in the portionof the fieldof Naboththe Jezreelite:for rememberhow that, when I and thou rodetogetherafterAhabhis father,the LORDlaidthis burdenupon him;26Surely I have seenyesterdaythe bloodof Naboth,and the bloodof his sons,saiththe LORD;and I will requitethee in this plat,saiththe LORD.Now therefore take[and] casthim into the plat[of ground], according to the wordof the LORD.

27But when Ahaziahthe kingof Judahsaw[this], he fledby the wayof the gardenhouse.And Jehufollowedafterhim, and said,Smitehim also in the chariot.[And they did so] at the going upto Gur,which [is] by Ibleam.And he fledto Megiddo,and diedthere.28And his servantscarriedhim in a chariot to Jerusalem,and buriedhim in his sepulchrewith his fathersin the cityof David.

29And in the eleventhyearof Joramthe sonof Ahabbegan Ahaziahto reignover Judah.

The Murder of Jezebel

30And when Jehuwas cometo Jezreel,Jezebelheard[of it]; and she paintedher face,and tiredher head,and looked outat a window.31And as Jehuentered inat the gate,she said,[Had] Zimripeace,who slewhis master?32And he lifted uphis faceto the window,and said,Who [is] on my side? who? And there looked outto him two[or] threeeunuchs.

33And he said,Throw her down.So they threw her down:and [some] of her bloodwas sprinkledon the wall,and on the horses:and he trode her under foot.34And when he was come in,he did eatand drink,and said,Go,see now this cursed[woman], and buryher: for she [is] a king'sdaughter.35And they wentto buryher: but they foundno more of her thanthe skull,and the feet,and the palmsof [her] hands.36Wherefore they came again,and toldhim. And he said,This [is] the wordof the LORD,which he spakebyhis servantElijahthe Tishbite,saying,In the portionof Jezreelshall dogseatthe fleshof Jezebel:37And the carcaseof Jezebelshall be as dungupon the faceof the fieldin the portionof Jezreel;[so] that they shall not say,This [is] Jezebel.
